Soulful singer Josh Holiday from North Texas impresses Idol judges

He's from Celeste, which is about 40 miles east of McKinney.

Josh Holiday auditions for the American Idol judges.

I have written a couple of times about Dallas’ Cortez Shaw, who is currently a contestant on American Idol and has made it to the top 40 after Nicki Minaj was “disgusted” with his rendition of “I Will Always Love You” earlier in the competition. However, Shaw is not the only contestant from our area advancing to the Las Vegas rounds.

Josh Holiday is a caregiver/vocal coach from Celeste, Texas, who auditioned for the American Idol judges in Chicago and so far has also made it to the top 40. Josh, who now lives in Nashville, seems like a nice guy with more soul than your typical “white guys with guitars” who have won the last five seasons of Idol. The producers seem intent on pushing for a girl to win this season, which could be a problem for Josh. But maybe not, since at the end of the day the show’s audience loves voting for cute white guys (see previous 5 winners for reference).

Here is Josh’s audition, in which he performed “Back at One” by Bryan McKnight:

Speaking of the producers wanting a woman to win this season, producer Nygel Lythgoe tweeted over the weekend that there are “3 great guys and 10 great girls.”

See Josh cover two Justin Bieber songs:
