Photos: Blizzard conditions blanket West Texas

Be glad you're in North Texas.

Got snow? Above is what it looks like in Amarillo and Lubbock right now.

In some parts of the Central Plains, state troopers are unable to respond to calls for assistance and National Guard units are mobilizing as a winter storm blankets the area with a foot of snow in some places.

A blizzard packing 50 mph wind gusts and more than 11 inches of snow blasted the Texas Panhandle Monday, making travel nearly impossible. Interstate 40 and many major highways in the Panhandle have been closed.

Normally it’s about a 5 hour drive from Dallas to Amarillo. In these conditions, you wouldn’t make it by morning.
