Catch DFW native Benjamin Cage on The Price is Right on January 8
All we know of Cage is that Drew Carey might (or might not) be his new best friend.
HIGHLAND VILLAGE Like most Americans, Highland Village’s Benjamin Cage grew up watching The Price as Right during breaks from school or on sick days – it becomes, he supposes, a bit of the collective American consciousness. Who doesn’t believe they will someday stand beside Bob Barker – or, well, these days, Drew Carey – and vie for a Showcase Showdown? In a sense, it is the definitive American Dream.
Back in November, Cage lived out that dream on vacation with a close group of friends in Los Angeles. A young pilot who is moving this winter to Chicago where he flies mostly out of O’Hare, Cage was born and raised in the Dallas area, graduating from Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth. And, though he is mum on the details of his big game show appearance – viewers will have to wait until January 8 to see if whether he brought home a host of glamorous luxuries – what little he can divulge bursts with excitement.
“I can’t wait to go back. And, we might have plans to, but I can’t tell you more. They’re secret,” he said, laughing.
What’s not secret is just how much of the DFW native you will see during the January 8 airing. He and three friends were initially seated in row four, behind contestant number one in “Contestants’ Row,” garnering plenty of camera time. Cage said that, while he is not entirely certain as to the details of the selection process, he assumes he was chosen based on an interview with producers that helped narrow down which contestants would be culled from the crowd.
“They’re looking for a mix of people, I think,” he said. “And, it’s fun because Drew Carey is nice, and they seem to genuinely want you to win. Sure, maybe that's just for ratings, but it's a fun environment. Drew interacts with the crowd and introduces you to others there and makes jokes. Everyone gets a little Drew time.”
Check out Cage's debut on The Price is Right on January 8 at 10 a.m. on CBS.
