Get pumped to pop the question with these top 10 engagement songs
Consider this your "Cyrano de Soft Rock."
Writing this article about engagement songs instantly transported me back to the year 2011. My husband proposed to me in January of that year. The rest of 2011 and first few months of 2012 revolved around planning the wedding.
We had to make countless decisions, including what to wear, what colors we should use, and most importantly what music would be incorporated in our special day. In an effort to give you a condensed version of my story, I have jumped way ahead of the engagement. Before you can get to the planning process you must first meet the person, fall in love and ultimately decide that this is your forever someone.
Once you have come to that conclusion, the next logical step would be to buy a ring and ask him or her to marry you. This occasion is likely to produce some nerves, if you need a confidence boost or find yourself at a loss for words, refer to this list and find yourself inspired.
1. Train - “Marry Me”
This is the song that was playing when my husband proposed to me back in 2011.
Train — “Marry Me”
2. Sade - “By Your Side”
I can honestly say that there is no one quite like Sade. She has a sound and style all her own. This song resonates with people because it is a tale of everlasting love.
Sade - “By Your Side”
3. The Pretenders - “I’ll Stand By You”
This song is very symbolic when it comes to describing a relationship, the wedding day, and even the proposal. The symbolism stems from the fact you are asking this person to commit to you, stand next you on that day, and stand by you in good times and in bad.
The Pretenders — “I’ll Stand By You”
4. Dave Matthews Band - “You and Me”
This is a great song; it describes just how powerful love really is. As long as the two of you have love, the possibilities are endless.
Dave Matthews Band — “You and Me”
5. Jason Mraz - “Lucky”
A relationship is hard enough to keep up. When there is a distance between you and your loved one, it becomes even harder to manage. This song throws the worries out the window and states that the distance is only a matter of miles and minutes until we are together again.
Jason Mraz — “Lucky”
6. Bruno Mars - “Marry You”
This is a fun, quirky song about taking your relationship to the next level.
Bruno Mars — “Marry You”
7. Jack Johnson - “Better Together”
If you have that special someone by your side, the world is a better place.
Jack Johnson — “Better Together”
8. John Legend - “Stay With You”
The wedding vows include a section on sickness and health and in good times and bad. It is no surprise that most love songs will include a section on loving one another no matter what you are going through.
John Legend — “Stay With You”
9. Ben Harper - “Forever”
This day and age we have divorce, short marriages, and annulment. The promise of forever and the definition behind what that exactly means can become skewed. Ben Harper defines forever to clear up any confusion.
Ben Harper — “Forever”
10. Christina Perri - “A Thousand Years”
You can’t take the lyrics in this song literally because obviously we don’t live for a thousand years. What Christina Perri is trying to say is that she waited what she felt like was a lifetime for this love and as long she is on this earth and even beyond that love will remain.
Christina Perri — “A Thousand Years”
