Dallas blessed with world’s first Christian weight loss camp
DALLAS Renew Camps announced that they will be launching “the first Christian summer weight loss camp” in Dallas. Intended for kids, teens, and young adults (ages 10 to 20, both girls and boys), “Renew weight loss camps will minister to our summer campers and their families on their journey to health,” according to the press release.
As a Christian, my reaction is a mixture of “How on God’s Earth has this never happened before?” and “Wait, why do we need a Christian weight loss camp?” I mean, Christian camp in general I understand (never went to one growing up, though). Christian school? I get why those exist. But Christian weight loss camp? I don’t know. Were regular weight loss camps getting too secular?
In any case, the news reminded my co-workers and I of Heavyweights, that kinda awful (but lovable?) Disney movie from the '90s starring Ben Stiller.
Hopefully Renew Camps won’t be subject to the same kind of trials and hijinks. Or maybe it will, and a lot of young campers will have exciting stories to tell.
