Minnesota Wild 1, Dallas Stars 0
Stars offense disappears in lackluster road loss.
The only goal occured early in the first period. With the Wild on a 4-on-3 powerplay, offseason star acquisition Zach Parise got one past Stars rookie goaltender Christopher Nilstorp for his first goal as a member of the Wild and the 1-0 lead.
Dallas' offense, which scored four goals on a defensively-minded Phoenix Coyotes team the night before, could barely even manage a clean entry into the Minnesota zone until the final minute of the game. Down a man thanks to a poorly-timed Trevor Daley high sticking penalty, the Stars showed their first signs of aggression all game, nearly getting the shorthanded equalizer twice before running out of time.
Nilstorp was excellent in his first career NHL game, stopping 31 of 32 shots in the loss, including several prime scoring chances for the Wild. His Minnesota counterpart, Josh Harding, stopped all 24 shots he faced for the shutout win.
Dallas next travels to Detroit to face the 0-1-1 Red Wings on Tuesday night.
