4 must-hit events at Taste of Dallas this summer
Got a sweet tooth? Like to imbibe? Read on.
FAIR PARK Taste of Dallas returns on July 12-14 and, with more than 60 participating restaurants, there's no shortage of food-related follies for every palate. The family-friendly Fair Park affair costs $10 per day and is located right off the DART Green Line. The weekend offers a variety of ways to experience Dallas' dining scene via events like cooking demonstrations and food trucks. Here are our four favorite to-dos at Taste of Dallas:
Act important: Taste of the Town is a VIP event-within-the-event inside the air-conditioned Automobile Building where you can sample menus from Max's Wine Dive, Jasmine, and Mesa Coastal Cuisine, just to name a few. Buy your $30 ticket in advance, which includes the $10 admission fee you would pay at the gate. If you're drinking as well, spend $50 on the Town/Tavern combo for the event's best deal.
Drink up: If beer, wine, and spirits is more your style, pop into the 21+ VIP area called Taste Tavern to try local brands, as well as domestic and international offerings, with a different theme each day. Tickets are $30 per day, including your $10 general admission fee.
Roll with it: In just a couple of years, this city has gone food truck fanatic, and Taste Curbside is one way to explore the mobile marketplace. From established brands like The Butcher's Son and Nammi to less buzzed-about fare like Guave Tree -- a "Cuban-American truckstaurant" -- some of Dallas' best roll straight to you.
Feed your sweet tooth: While there's plenty of fun for the little folks, The Sweet Factory is an area that the whole family can enjoy together. You'll find cookies, cakes, cupcakes, candy, and ice cream from companies like Tiff's Treats and Paciugo. Scarf it down and then work off the sugar buzz in the bounce houses in Kid's Taste Town, an indoor air-conditioned "kids' fun zone."
