Dallas Stars player Tyler Seguin tweets about “steers and queers”
DALLAS The Dallas Stars have a new player: Tyler Seguin. He isn’t even in Texas yet, but the team is already apologizing for him.
This tweet went out from Seguin’s twitter account Saturday night:
Only steers and queers in Texas, and I'm not a cow.
No, Seguin wasn’t coming out of the closet. Media are speculating the “Only steers and queers in Texas” tweet was the work of a prankster.
The Dallas Stars organization immediately distanced itself from Seguin with a statement:
In no way, shape or form does the Dallas Stars organization condone or agree with the message that was sent out through Tyler Seguin’s Twitter feed last night. We’ve addressed the issue directly with Tyler and we’ll continue to work on educating our players regarding the importance of their conduct on all forms of social media.
You can’t see the tweet anymore. It’s since been deleted. Seguin claims his account was hacked, and that this wasn’t the first time. So, he shut down his Twitter profile: "After repeated attempts by “hackers” to try to damage my reputation I have decided to shut down my twitter account for a while."
Funny that he put “hackers” in quotes, isn’t it?
Anyway, this wasn’t the first time Seguin drew fire for a homophobic tweet. In April, he wrote:
Just listened to the song in my bed. Gave me goosebumps no homo. My roommate and boy have some skills @freddybender @KnucklesNBS.
The last time, he didn’t blame it on a hacker, though. He tweeted an apology the following day.
You know when your half asleep and say or write something without thinking twice or realizing what you said. Apologies on last tweet. Gnight
