First look: EF+LM upholsters Design District with luxurious American flair
The company hand-crafts its high-end designs in the US of A.
DESIGN DISTRICT The merging of Edward Ferrell’s upholstery and casegoods expertise with Lewis Mittman’s French influenced aesthetic in the 1950s launched a company which would go on to become one of the most well-known luxury furniture manufacturers in the United States.
With showrooms throughout the country, Edward Ferrell+Lewis Mittman (EF+LM) is well-known but may be unfamiliar to the non-design community so if you, like me, are no design-world expert, here’s a primer.
A few weeks ago I told you about EF+LM’s recent “Made in America” award, honoring the company’s commitment to American design and craftsmanship which perfectly sums up a company that is American through and through.
The merging of Ferrell and Mittman’s design skills in 1953 resulted in a company whose American-made furniture lines ranged from traditional to modern.
If you could dream it, you could probably find it at EF+LM.
Now the company’s lines are represented in 14 showrooms in North America and Shanghai as well as in their five company-owned showrooms which include the location right here in the Dallas Design Center.
EF+LM has been hand-crafting their furniture from the beginning and their dual role as manufacturer means their clients are getting some of the same products they can buy elsewhere, at a much lower price.
It also equates to an incredibly short lead time for EF+LM’s designer upholstered pieces and their completely customizable furniture ranging from headboards to sofas to recliners.
Apart from EF+LM’s own designs, the company also carries lines from well-known designers including Jamie Drake, Roger Thomas, and Newman-Frey among others.
While EF+LM is famous for their furniture, the company’s showrooms are also destinations for lighting, featuring everything from unique chandeliers to lighting solutions for any room of the house.
Although the company has never had a hard time catching the eye of designers, their recent honor from MADE: In America only adds to the design-world capital EF+LM has accumulated over the years, creating fine luxury furniture for a discerning group of designers and clients.
