Texas barbecue joints featured on Cooking Channel on Tuesday
Looking for elite meat? Look no further.
While DFW homes a number of stellar barbecue joints, most North Texans make an epic Hill Country trek now and again to indulge in food from barbecue's spiritual birthplace in the Lone Star State. On Tuesday, July 23, the Cooking Channel program Man Fire Food highlights two Central Texas heavyweights, Kreuz Market in Lockhart and Louie Mueller Barbecue in Taylor.
Kreuz Market boasts eight pits and a storied history dating back to 1900. It has been owned by the Schmidt family since 1948, and Edgar "Papa" Schmidt's granddaughter Jill Grobowsky Bergus started Dallas' own Lockhart Smokehouse in Oak Cliff. Louie Mueller Barbecue's story includes a tragic fire early this year that wrecked the establishment's 54-year-old pit. Rebuilt and re-seasoned, the reboot seeks to put out the same bold flavors that helped rank it one of Texas' best.
Man Fire Food follows Chef Roger Mooking as he travels the globe in search of elite meat. Check out the show's Texas edition Tuesday at 8 p.m. on the Cooking Channel.
