Dallas councilwoman wants HIV testing billboard removed
She thinks it promotes homosexuality.
ADDISON Dallas city councilwoman Vonceil Jones-Hill is angry about a billboard from Dallas County Health and Human Services. It’s in her district, and she wants it gone.
The billboard is meant to encourage gay African American men to get tested for HIV/AIDS. It’s part of the national Greater Than campaign.
In Texas, the rate of black men living with HIV is 3.7 times that of white men. For women, the ratio is 12.6 black/white.
The health department is hoping to reach out to the black community with the billboard. Jones-Hill says the billboard promotes gay sex as acceptable behavior, in an email to Fox4.
Councilwoman Vonceil Jones-Hill wrote that the billboard has several messages: presenting African American men who are homosexuals as acceptable, engaging in such conduct presents health risks, feel free to continue what you are doing but protect your health.
