Woman and four children missing after leaving Dallas for Michigan two weeks ago

An Amber Alert has not been issued.

On March 5, 28-year-old Katrina Hernandez left her southeast Dallas home on Annabelle Lane with her four children; their destination, Michigan. But two weeks later they still have not arrived, and Dallas police are trying to find out what’s become of Hernandez and her kids. Her brother, Kenneth Gordon of Kalamazoo, Michigan, says he is “hoping and praying for the best, but I’m fearing the worst.”

Dallas police confirm this morning that they are investigating this as a missing-persons case.

According to an incident report dated March 5, Gordon called Dallas police when his sister, who was moving back to Michigan, didn’t show. Gordon, speaking with a Grand Rapids TV station yesterday, said he last spoke to his sister as she was driving west along Interstate 20, between Dallas and Fort Worth. She was on the phone, apparently, arguing with a boyfriend. Gordon told police that at some point, the phone went dead — and all calls after that went immediately to voice mail.

According to Gordon, his sister was on her way to pick up a car she found on Craigslist, for which she was prepared to pay $4,800 in cash.

The news report out of Michigan says the Craigslist connection has turned up nothing so far, and that the boyfriend has been “cleared … of any wrongdoing.” It also notes that Hernandez has an ex-husband living in Mexico, but that there’s nothing to indicate she and the children crossed the border. The story also mentions “an unknown friend” who was traveling with Hernandez.

LaTonia Kelly, a public information officer for the Dallas PD, says the department isn’t releasing any further information.

“It’s under investigation,” is all she will say this morning. “The case is not closed at this time.”

Gordon wants to know why no Amber Alert has been issued for the four children, if nothing else. We too are attempting to find the answer to that question.

Updates coming. Till then, the WOOD-TV report is below:
