Dallas’ Sean Lowe is Dancing With the Stars‘ third-favorite contestant
Lowe seems to be having the time of his life so far.
Around this time last year, Sean Lowe was selling insurance in Dallas and living a pretty normal life.
Today, he’s hanging out with luminaries including Ellen DeGeneres, Betty White, Ryan Seacrest, and Jerry Springer. (Instagram has the proof.) After proposing to Catherine Giudici on The Bachelor, he’s planning to get married on national TV. But first, he’s laced up his Capezios as a contestant on Dancing With the Stars, which started anew last Monday night.
All of this from a guy who swears he hates fame. Sample quote: “I’m certainly not looking to extend my 15 minutes of fame from The Bachelor. I love my life here in Dallas. I don’t need the glitz and glamor that Hollywood offers.” Somebody should have told him that Dancing With the Stars is composed of 50 percent glitz and 50 percent glamour.
In his defense, Lowe says he signed up for the show so that he could learn to dance before his wedding. (Fair enough, but if we next see him in a boardroom across from Donald Trump, credibility will be strained.) His fiancée seems to be happy with the decision; she was in the audience last week, cheering her man on.
While his first performance with partner Peta Murgatroyd resulted in a mediocre score of 19 out of 30 points, it’s unlikely he will be the first dancer sent home Tuesday night. In fact, expect to see Lowe taking the stage for many weeks to come. Why?
Because everybody just seems to really like the guy. Include the judges on that; they could have been much harsher after his first performance, which included some awkward, thinking-too-hard-about-my-steps expressions. Instead, the trio praised him for a valiant first effort and predicted vast improvement in the coming weeks.
Then there’s America, which gets to vote on this thing. Americans are crazy in love with Sean Lowe. According to the official Dancing website, he’s creating the third-most buzz among the contestants, just behind Zendaya and Lisa Vanderpump with her clothes-wearing little doggie.
Whatever happens, Lowe seems to be having the time of his life so far.
“Overall, this experience has been absolutely incredible,” he says in a video called “The Dancers Confess,” on the ABC site. “I’ve never done anything like this, especially competing with the other celebrities and other pro dancers. I consider myself to be very blessed just being a part of it. And you know, 19 is not a bad way to start the season off.”
Murgatroyd agrees and says: “I’m blessed to have you as my partner. We have so much fun together!”
They then go in for a warm embrace. These two sure have a lot of chemistry between them. Hmm.
Yes, those Internet rumors have already started. But as reality television has proven time and time again, anything can happen from this point on — and Lowe’s likeability ensures that millions will stay tuned.
Dancing With the Stars: 7 p.m. Monday and 8 p.m. Tuesday, ABC (Channel 8). 2 hrs. performance show Monday, 1 hr. results Tuesday.
