UPDATED: Scope’s new bacon mouthwash was all a joke
We hate to say, "I told you so."
Scope, with parent company Procter & Gamble, has pulled off quite the early April Fools' joke: They’re pushing a new bacon mouthwash, “for breath that sizzles.” The brand has a website with a special product page, Facebook and Twitter posts touting the new ‘wash, and a hilarious YouTube video.
Would they go through all the trouble for a fake product? Yes, they would: It is fabulous marketing, and a funny prank advertising the one product pretty much no one hates. But it's also too late. Bacon was so 2012.
Scope Bacon Mouthwash | Behold!
We did a little nosing around ourselves. The person who answered Scope's main line – Brenda, who refused to give her last name – said the only information available right now about Scope Bacon is on the website. “We are not releasing anything else until after April 1,” she told me.
April 1, eh? Funny, that's also April Fools' Day. The jig is up.
The real indicator that this is a hoax is the tagline: “Indulge your meat tooth.” That is much too awesome a tagline to be real.
UPDATE: Scope confirms via Twitter: It was all an April Fools joke. What's that? That's the sweet, sweet taste of "I told you so." I believe it tastes like bacon.
