Video: Patrick Stewart honors Mayor Rawlings during remarks on domestic violence prevention
Stewart was in Houston for Comicpalooza last week.
During Comicpalooza in Houston last weekend, Sir Patrick Stewart did a Q&A with guests. One woman in the audience took the opportunity to thank Stewart for a video he did for Amnesty International, which dealt with violence against women, and asked what Stewart was most proud of outside of acting.
The answer was a heartfelt and personal speech about Stewart’s history with domestic violence and his efforts to help fix the problem. This included a mention of a recent United Nations sponsored event, which both Stewart and Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings attended as speakers.
Toward the end of his speech, after receiving a standing ovation from the crowd that included many young men, Stewart gave our mayor major props:
“You have here in Texas a man named Mike Rawlings, Mayor of Dallas. Michael was with me on that platform at the United Nations event, and spoke so potently and so powerfully about these issues. He spoke about it from his own experience of being a Texan and living and working in Dallas, and I was so proud to share that platform with him. He’s a remarkable individual.”
The whole video, reportedly uploaded by the question asker, is worth watching. The end may make you a little teary eyed.
