Wakarusa Winter Classic offers local bands a slot at national music festival in 2014

DEEP ELLUM Attention local bands: Your chance to share the bill with legendary musicians like Widespread Panic at the esteemed Wakarusa music festival could be one performance away. The Wakarusa Winter Classic returns to Trees in Deep Ellum January 10.
This annual battle of the bands is hitting 16 cities in 2014, offering locals bands a spot on the festival’s lineup. Submission for entry opened Tuesday. Bands can register here through ReverbNation. Five bands will be selected to compete, and the winner is chosen by a vote from those who attend the concert. Start your marketing campaign now.

Dallas has long played host to the Waka Winter Classic. Last year, Dallas’ The Effinays won over the crowd with their blend of funk and reggae jams. Goodnight Ned, We The Sea Lions, Ugly Lion and Gravity Feed also participated. It was The Effinays’ first time to earn the title and perform at Wakarusa in Ozark, Ark. A total of 11 bands from Texas played the fest in 2013.
Aside from the competition, the Waka Winter Classic provides a unique local showcase that invites music enthusiasts out by the hundreds to support their friends.
The 11th annual Wakarusa is slated for June 5-8, 2014.
