Hit the ground running (or walking) at these 6 Frisco events
What better way to stay in shape during the cold months?
FRISCO The temperature is finally on its way down, and just in time! Lace up those sneakers and participate in one or some of the upcoming fun runs, walks and 5Ks in Frisco. Here is a list of Frisco runs and walks this fall and winter:
Fun Run at Early Childhood School -- 6 p.m. October 16
Since students usually do not participate in the Gary Burns 5K Fun Run, this event is being brought to them. Last year they had more than 250 participants and are expecting even more this year. This will be their biggest run yet, so be sure to check it out!
The Gary Burns Frisco Fun Run at Toyota Stadium (FC Dallas Stadium) -- 8 a.m. October 26
This annual 5K run/walk and 1-mile walk is around Toyota Stadium (FC Dallas Stadium), and proceeds from the Frisco Fun Run go to the Frisco Education Foundation to build scholarship opportunities for Frisco ISD students, including the Gary Burns Memorial Scholarship Fund and Innovative Grants for FISD Staff. Light The Night Walk at Place at Frisco Square -- 5 p.m. October 26, 2013
Light The Night Walk events are evenings filled with inspiration. During this leisurely walk, Champions For Cures carry illuminated balloons -- white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer. The funds raised by Light The Night participants will help save lives. Register here.
The Heart of America Run, Virtual Run -- November 9, anytime
Help show support and appreciation for our Veterans by participating in The Heart of America Virtual Run in celebration of Veterans Day, benefitting the Wounded Warriors Project. Join in for this worthy cause and help give back to those who sacrifice to protect us. This is a virtual race, so run/walk/crawl wherever you are, whenever you can. You can even complete this race on the treadmill! No proof is required of completion, but feel free to post your photos to their Facebook page. Register here.
North Texas Turkey Trot at Frisco Square/FC Dallas Stadium -- 8 a.m. November 28
This is the third year for the popular and growing family event on Thanksgiving Day in Frisco. The event offers a 10K trot, a 5K trot and a Miracle Mile for kids. Join thousands of participants who celebrate the holiday with grandparents, relatives, friends and their children. Benefitting The Miracle League of Frisco, a charitable organization that is designed to provide an opportunity for children to enjoy team sports in a fun, safe and rewarding environment. Frosty 5K & Merry Mile at Simpson Plaza at City Hall -- 8 a.m. December 14
Celebrate the holiday season in Frisco with this 5K and merry mile. A portion of the proceeds from the race will be donated to S.O.A.R. (Scholarship Opportunities for Activities and Recreation) Charitable Fund. This scholarship program allows qualified Frisco residents to participate in recreation programs and special events.
