Community and Cedar Creek breweries win gold at Great American Beer Festival
Nine Texas establishments won awards out of more than 550 craft breweries there.
DENVER, CO Two North Texas breweries walked away victorious from the Great American Beer Festival in Denver last weekend. Both Community Beer Company and Cedar Creek Brewery earned gold medals at the 31-year-old festival, which hosts more than 550 craft breweries from across the nation.
Dallas’ Community Beer Company won gold in the “Extra Special Bitter (ESB)” category for its Public Ale, an English ESB brew with 100 percent English malts and a blend of English, American and German hops. The beer previously won bronze at the 2013 Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition and silver at this year’s U.S. Open Beer Championship in Atlanta.
Cedar Creek Brewery in Seven Points took home the gold in “Belgian-Style Abbey Ale” category for its Belgian-Style Dubbel. This brew is not currently a regular offering, but the brewers told The Dallas Observer they look forward to producing more.
Several other Texas breweries took home awards, including Namaste Brewing at the Whip In, Saint Arnold Brewing Company, Austin Beerworks, Real Ale Brewing Company, Black Star Co-op Pub and Brewery, Jester King Brewery and Pinthouse Pizza.
