Best bars in Dallas to watch the Texas A&M-Alabama game
You don't have to be wearing maroon or crimson to enjoy this game. You like beer, right?
No. 1 University of Alabama is out for revenge on Saturday. Last time they met now-No. 6 Texas A&M, Heisman winner Johnny Manziel shocked the Crimson Tide on their home turf, stealing the game. Saturday, the Tide travels to Texas A&M for payback, and this is a game you won't want to miss.
Let's say you didn't shell out more than $600 per ticket to see it in person. Save your money and post up at a bar for the 2:30 p.m. game. Here's where:
No dog in the fight
You like football, really like bars, and love Saturdays. Here are four bars where you don't necessarily have to be wearing maroon or crimson to find one heck of a good time:
Party like a frat star: Nodding Donkey in Uptown is your bar. (Affectionately called the Agreeable Ass.) Bartenders expect a "normal watch party" on Saturday -- which means people jammed into tables and standing near the bar. If you get there early, which is recommended, you'll find $3 Bloody Marys and mimosas until 2 p.m.
Come as you are: When it's not game day, Stan's Blue Note on Greenville Avenue plays host to an odd mix of people of all ages who drink their beer in a mason jar and don't mind the dirty restrooms. On game day, none of that changes, except the bar is positively packed with sports fans -- and a nice mix of schools at that. Specials on Saturday are $2.50 domestic bottles, $3 domestic drafts, $10 domestic pitchers, and buckets (6 beers) for $12.50.
Where the Aggies are: Corner Bar & Grill on the north tip of McKinney Avenue is Aggie owned and Aggie proud. It doesn't mean the Crimson Tide isn't welcome, but it does mean that maroon could be the majority. Owner Steve Spence will announce a food special during the game. Game day buckets (6 beers) cost $20.
Oh, you want a dive bar?: Milo Butterfingers it is -- a bar near SMU so laid-back, the owners forgot to put an apostrophe near the end of the name. Saturday is $1 off pitchers, making a cheap carafe of beer as low as $8.
I've got a team and I'm proud to show it
Put on a smear of eye black and your favorite player's jersey, then seek out an official watch party. Only for the serious fan:
Alabama fans: The Tide in Texas group has two official watch parties: at Bonnie & Clyde’s Hideout in Grapevine (at Hilton DFW Lakes) and at McFadden's in Addison. At Bonnie & Clyde's, the drink of the day is a margarita for $5. At McFadden's, the rowdier of the two options, there's $2 domestic drafts, $10 pitchers, $3 you-call-its, $5 burgers, and $1 sliders.
A&M fans: Primebar in Uptown is the spot. The Dallas A&M Club's official game watching location will have $4 wells and $15 beer buckets. Those feeling especially spirited can order a $3 Reveille shot, a potent mix of whiskey, peach schnapps, and cranberry juice.
