Since summer, nearly 20 Little Elm restaurants have improved their restaurant inspection scores
Only three restaurants in the entire town have a score below 80, and no restaurants scored lower than a 71.
LITTLE ELM Clean eating has become a staple in the growing Little Elm restaurant industry, with inspection scores supplying the proof.
Since the last batch of restaurant inspections in June 2013, nine eateries in town have jumped from a "B" score (80 to 89) to an "A" score (90 to 100), and another 10 restaurants have improved their score from a mid- to low-A to a high-A or perfect score, according to town officials.
In all, 47 restaurants have a score between 90 and 100, and 16 have a score between 80 and 89. Only three restaurants in the entire town have a score below 80, and no restaurants scored lower than a 71.
Of note, Baker's Dozen Donuts jumped from a 79 in April 2012 to a 92 in October 2012. Los Charros (78 to an 87), Los Jalepenos (79 to 88) and Sonny Donuts 8 (79 to 84) all made significant jumps in the scores, as well.
"We try to address our restaurant health codes from an educational stand point," said Matt Mueller, town manager. "Even in our case, when you have low scores on one test, you see the scores going up on the next inspection. Our departments do a great job working with the restaurants to make sure everything is clean and up to code."
"In Little Elm we have a great group of food establishments, and sometimes people don't realize how varied the term 'food establishment' is," said Mike Green, CCEO of Little Elm Community Integrity. "In addition to restaurants, we have grocery stores, convenience stores, schools and daycares. Add to that the many temporary event vendors that participate in the many festivals and events that the Town sponsors and it really adds up to a substantial number.
"I find myself very lucky to work with all of the different establishments. So much pride and effort is put forth by all of the managers and employees. All of their effort really shows in the products they share."
