Video: Arlington woman Julie Offill sings her way into American Idol
Her last name sorta sounds like "awful."
On Wednesday’s American Idol, we saw contestants audition in Salt Lake City. One of these contestants was Julie Offill from Arlington. But Julie didn’t just drive all the way there to sing for the judges on a whim. She was part of a group of contestants selected by producers on the Idol bus tour, which goes through U.S. cities finding talent. She was discovered when the bus stopped in Oxford, where she goes to school.
After appearing in front of the judges and J-Lo asking if her last name was Awful, to which she responded “pretty close,” they left us hanging for a bit to show us some other Idol tour bus auditions.
Right before commercials we got to hear a bit of Julie’s audition, and viewers got a chance to tweet the hashtags #idolhollywood or #idolhome and guess if Julie would make it through. After commercials, we saw Julie’s rendition of “Make You Feel My Love,” and the hashtag vote was 68% in favor of sending our Dallas contestant to Hollywood.
Judges agreed. Well, two of them; Keith Urban thought she needed more time.
