That is good, while the Whole Foods will continue to hold their account at levels they say is real food that is good for you at a price, while the other kinds of food may not be good for you...

What the almighty American dollar and the hard working farmers have to do, to create good food....A/T, Healthy time are sill not here yet...

Tom Thumb, what can I say... This store has fed me since I was a child. Even though I damn near gave up on them when they would only carry the Safeway brand in certain products. (Specifically at the deli counter) I am still your customer. However, you better pray that "Central Markup" never lowers their prices to match yours! I do loves the Central Market but not the Markup!

Tom Thumb dropped the ball, when they dropped Boar's Head!! And their produce is WAY overpriced (unlike Sprouts/Fiesta). Their meats are ok (not as nice as Costco Meats), and they got rid of their 10 cent discount gas, which kroger kept. Central Markup doesnt make my sugar-free Banana Meringue(sp?) anymore. And their meat is overrated/overpriced! There is no Whole Foods by my crib (home), so SPROUTS IT IS!! Now there's NEWFLOWER? on Preston Rd., with nice produce. Then there's Market Street (Cntrl Mkt wannabe). Is DFW still the 2nd most competitive food store market in the country, behind Houston? used to be...and Tom Thumb used to rule Dallas(only), then WALMART SUPERCENTERS N SUPERTARGET HAPPENED...DAYUM!!! What's a person to do? Just waiting for Food Lion (7-11 Supercenters), to come back!! Thats what we used to call them...

just my opinion....

What needs to happen is to make the Target on Montfort and 635 a Super Target! that would be nice. In the mean time I find a Kroger when I can. Just recently I went to Tomthumb.com to print some online coupons and was surprised to find that I could upload the coupons to my Rewards Card! its better than walking around with coupons... i'm from Plano. haha. jk.

Just got back from Tom Thumb and their prices are still higher than Kroger. Central Market's prices have come down quite a bit since Market Street opened and their quality is still the best IMO, so win/win there.

What needs to happen is they need to tear down that target on montfort and build a supertarget. (a little more security, wouldn't hurt, either). they need a supertarget on Parker/75!! the closest one to us, is on Stacy road and the one on Campbell n Coit...both too far!

I don't always go to the Target on Monfort so I don't see why they would need more security. I even go less to the one in Cityplace and I know that they need security. Every time I go, there's a cop car outside taking a little hoodlum away.

Hey, David, someone at the Target on Parker at 75 told me that store is being renovated into a SuperTarget soon to compete with the one in Allen.

Over here in my part of "the Cliff"...Tom Thumb is about the only good grocery store for basics. So grocery days are a "trip"....across the river to the Farmers Mkt...Whole Foods or NewFlower...or Jimmy's....for the "goodies" I get "scary" when I go to Central Market....too much good stuff with a price tag. Lots of things disappeared from Tom Thumb when Safeway took over...(ex. Boars Head products)....and that totally sucked. Along with all the "gourmet" stuff us foodies like occasionally. Do love the latino grocery stores though...can't beat a freshly made hot tortilla. Rumor is....an "organic" grocery store is in the plans for the "new" Ft.Worth Ave....Woo Hoo....Rock on !!!!!!!!!

when is this NEW FT WORTH AVE., happening? I heard that the 'gateway' project wasn't going to happen, after all. It doesn't look like they're going to do anything anytime soon, either. Sorry, that's for another blog...BTW...Tom Thumb on Cedar Springs had the best homemade tortillas. THEY dropped the ball when they allowed kroger to build across the street. TT owned that land at one time, way back in the day. What is going up there anyway where TT was? Dont go that way very much.

The Piggly Wiggly came into being around the 1920's really the first of the chain stores, in Oak Cliff.. like 7/11 or the Southland Ice Company then A an P then Safeway and so on,closing out the old Mom and Pop stores, bakeries, butchers, fruit and vegetable vendors.

This new era in stores became like refined sugar, wonders for car culture in the 1950's and we have been in love with the fact ever since, but....The value of good food is what we now have to pay for, and you will find the best of foods at whole foods type stores and they won't..come down and can't...

Meanwhile, David and Cee Cee are on the button to what is your community ....What's Adam going to do, when Eve goes shopping for fake fruit....A/T, Food culture, ain't cheap, it's real.

I remember the A&P, in Walnut Hill Village, and the Safeway, on Webb Chapel, back in the early 70's...Don't remember if A&P was union at that time,(probably), but Safeway was, which lead to their demise in the late 80's. TOO MUCH PAYROLL. Safeway had to purchase TT/Randalls to get back in this market. Now TT is one is one of the higher priced grocery stores. They need to act fast, or we might see H-E-B, hit dallas/ft worth!!! (regular stores, not CM)

That's right David the A&P was in the Walnut Hill Village......all of the old chain stores were ok...then,while specalized buying was the really old fashion thing, milk delivered fresh bread, meats....

Then the age of eating out came in the late 1960's on a grand scale with credit cards and so Grocery store life became 2nd class in the domestic world....

Now in the 18th month of the Bush/Obamma landslide, better eating and poor eating has come to the table again, where to eat good foods on a poor pay check has come up,while the peanut butter sandwich has been replaced by the 4 tacos at Jack In The Box,...we are in a new age of buying foods.oh well.....,A/T,..You are what you eat...

I also remember the Jack in the Box across the street from Safeway, by the Western Auto, that had the big "jack", that you spoke in!!! There was a Lone Star Donuts, around the corner from Safeway, next to Goodyear. We used to go to that washateria, next door to THAT. 4 tacos and a jumbo jack for $3.00!!! DAMN THEM!!!
