Some people don't want their kids to hear a live message from the president of our country, encouraging them to do well in school. "They don't want their children to be indoctrinated"..... wtf!!!! The idiocracy has begun!!

My favorite quote, courtesy of Brendan Higgins of NBC5 this morning: "President Obama wants kids to stay in school, but it's a message some North Texas parents don't want to hear."

Uh...Have you listened to the ad for this? I heard it this morning on the radio and it creeped me out! I don’t think it’s the do well in school message that concerns people. How about repeating “What can I do for Obama?” five times? Seriously sheeple???

Haven't heard/seen the ad, tumbles -- any idea where I can find it online?

Tracy, it's a YouTube video, so you still may not be able to see it. BTW, this doesn't approach what tumbles was talking about -- I'll keep searching.

Yeah, me neither. I can't find it anywhere - Not even Fox, which is surprising.

I'm trying to figure out which radio station I was listening to...I was just flipping around and happened to catch it.

It had around five different voices saying "What can I do for Obama?" And honestly most of rest of the commercial was lost on me during the recoil. The announcer then said that the message contained suggested work assignments for the children such as writing a paper on how to "help the president" and have a class discussion about "what the president wants us to do." It was just creepy.

I believe the ad itself has only run in a few states up north...

Oh my fellow Reps, y'all crack me up. What's going to crack me up even more is when they said that "it's not a party issue!"

According to this article, the problem stemmed from semantics, which the administration is trying to rectify.

Semantics...Alright. I'll accept that. Just as soon as they ship the aide who wrote and approved the ad straight to Cuba where good propaganda is appreciated.

Um... I really don't like a lot of the current administration agenda. So I vote.

What the hell is it with people defacing the image of our Commander in Chief and protesting any bloody thing he does?

The freaking President of the United States wants to say "Hey, kids!"

gimme a break
I doubt even the most effective cults of personality can reprogram your child in mere moments, undoing the years of your attentive, engaged and effective parenting.

I personally look forward to my tikes running in and telling me "Daddy, the PRESIDENT talked to us today!"

That'll be cool. These people are dorks.

I believe this is the other video y'all are talking about:

That video wasn't bad at all. Maybe the line "I pledge to be a servant to our president" but other than that.... wtf are they complaining about?

Rats! They won't let us see anything here!

I don't know enough about the contents of the program to take issue with any of the points. Had THE AD said "What can I do for my Mom?; What can I do for my Dad?; What can I do for my community/country/favorite charity?" I would have no issue. But never, ever would I encourage my child to accept such a base level programming technique focused on one person/ideal and not question it. If it’s alright for the President, it’s alright for the dude down the street. That makes it ok for the Taliban too.

There are better ways to teach our children.

Maybe it's still a different video. This one is where celebrities are saying "I pledge to.... (help the community)" and it wasn't until the very end where they all said "I pledge to serve the president." Heck, Obama wasn't even in the video

It was on the radio Jesus. One of the fm music stations too. Otherwise I would hold out for crafty editing. Which could be the case anyway.

I think you're overestimating our kids today.

Also, what happened to the "love it or leave it" crowd, who insisted that anyone who questioned W was a traitor? Shouldn't they be building some sort of an Ark and sailing off into the sunset?

wadr, is this ad somehow related to next week's planned educational message ? (sorry, I can't view the ad from here, but on the link miko posted, it looks like an ad put together by some hollywood personalities.... ) it's not clear to me that the two are related.

What's wrong about being asked to think about what you can do to help another human being?

And yet "pledging allegiance" to a flag before being taught what "pledge" and "allegiance" really mean is A-OK?

Well, they won't be heading north through Plano. Drawbridge is up.

I'm just appalled at all the really hateful imagery thrown around lately in the name of dissent. I'd love to see the reaction to JFK or Ike Jokerized. (Not enought to do them here at work, mind you, but for discussion... let's say I had)

That's what I'm wondering too Tracy. Was the snippet of the ad I heard this morning an ad of the ad or the actual program?

Aack! - Did I really type contents?

What I find a little weird and creepy about it is the fact that nobody really knows what the content is to be -- the right figures it's a subversive "dear leader" thing, the left figures is a sunshine and rainbows stay-in-school thing.

Either way, I think it's presumptuous or even arrogant to just put out a notice that the President's going to talk without telling you exactly what he's saying, and with the strong implication that every school should interrupt their regular schedule to pay attention. And students should work on their "How can I help Obama" suggested lesson plan. I'm not comfortable with the idea, and wouldn't be if it were Gov. Goodhair or the Pope.

I don't think there'd be any stink at all if they have simply said that any interested school or parent can download a message to students from the President, for their own review, so they can decide whether it's appropriate. That's evidently what anyone can do after the live show.

I think it was a huge political and PR miscalculation to just presume that everyone would be comfortable with 15 minutes of some sort of unknown "indoctrination" -- even if it's really all harmless "study hard" stuff, they'd have been much better off either releasing a transcript of the prepared remarks beforehand or simply releasing a pre-recorded message.

This is too funny- I might have kept my kids from listening to G.W., but that would be because I would want them to learn proper English.

I guess the following paragraph references the ad I heard this morning...With little kids repeating "What can I do for Obama? What can I do for Obama?..."

The original lesson plan suggested students write down what they can do to help the president. The revised plan suggests students list how they “can achieve their short-term and long-term education goals.” No changes were made to the suggested lesson plan for students in the seventh through twelfth grades. dmn.com

And this would be the Menu of Planned Activities

http://www.ed.gov/teachers/how/lesson...

Seems reasonable enough...Although, I do wonder why he feels it necessary to use the words "butcher paper"...What is he up to?
