Travis Bush says:

UPDATED: Censorship at the Art Park. The Woody Guthrie piece by Terisa & Oliver Bradley (was) causing a stir. The DEF doesn't want to offend the city so they want to remove "This machine kills fascists" from WG's guitar, which was pretty much his trademark.

TerisaB, says:

The Deep Ellum Foundation has changed their minds and will not be censoring the art. Let's see if the city and the people of Dallas are as closed-minded as the DEF assumes they are going to be. Their fallback position is that it "wasn't the art approved in the original submission." The submission was nebulous so that's not entirely true, but does that mean if we had submitted Woody originally they would have censored it beforehand? Bill, you make an excellent point. To be fair they didn't even know it was a picture of Woody Guthrie at all. Perhaps a little research into his intent would have been useful.

The DEA is worried about complaints since it wasn't them. They say they have to ask the city for money and permission often and therefore have to walk a fine line. If the City of Dallas is that oppressive that everyone is scared and pre-empting fallout over an image of Woody Guthrie then that needs to change. I'm thinking we need to have an event at our studio celebrating the lives of outspoken people. If you look at the side of the mural there are stencils of Rosa Parks, Bill Hicks and other people who have said or done what they think is right, even when controversial.

"SMU's Class on Piety & Spains Dark Ages" - Late Turn In(-20 points)

I. "THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND " words and music by Woody Guthrie

Chorus: This land is your land, this land is my land From California, to the New York Island From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters This land was made for you and me

As I was walking a ribbon of highway I saw above me an endless skyway I saw below me a golden valley This land was made for you and me

Chorus

I've roamed and rambled and I've followed my footsteps To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts And all around me a voice was sounding This land was made for you and me

Chorus

The sun comes shining as I was strolling The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling The fog was lifting a voice come chanting This land was made for you and me

Chorus

As I was walkin' - I saw a sign there And that sign said - no tress passin' But on the other side .... it didn't say nothin! Now that side was made for you and me!

Chorus

In the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steeple Near the relief office - I see my people And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin' If this land's still made for you and me.

IV. http://www.htmlbible.com/kjv30/henry/... Outline of Psalms 117

All people called upon to praise God.

 • Here is a solemn call to all nations to praise the Lord, and proper matter for that praise is suggested. We are soon weary of well-doing, if we keep not up the pious and devout affections with which the spiritual sacrifice of praise ought to be kindled and kept burning. This is a gospel psalm. The apostle, Romans 15:11,. quotes it as a proof that the gospel was to be preached to the Gentile nations, and that it would be entertained by them. For many ages, in Judah only was God known, and his name praised; this call was not then given to any Gentiles. But the gospel of Christ is ordered to be preached to all nations, and by him those that were afar off are made nigh. We are among the persons to whom the Holy Spirit here speaks, whom he calls upon to join his ancient people in praising the Lord. Grace has thus abounded to millions of perishing sinners. Let us then listen to the offers of the grace of God, and pray for that time when all nations of the earth shall show forth his praises. And let us bless God for the unsearchable riches of gospel grace.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." -- Woodie Guthrie, ...aka: Woodrow Wilson "Woody" Guthrie (July 14, 1912 – October 3, 1967) is best known as an American singer-songwriter and folk musician, whose musical legacy includes hundreds of political, traditional and children's songs, ballads and improvised works. He frequently performed with the slogan This Machine Kills Fascists displayed on his guitar. His best-known song is "This Land Is Your Land", which is regularly sung in American schools. Many of his recorded songs are archived in the Library of Congress.[1]

Guthrie traveled with migrant workers from Oklahoma to California and learned traditional folk and blues songs. Many of his songs are about his experiences in the Dust Bowl era during the Great Depression, earning him the nickname the "Dust Bowl Troubadour".[2] Throughout his life Guthrie was associated with United States communist groups, though he was never an actual member of any. ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woody_Gu... ...for those who need something to talk negatively about, ...so that they can pretend to be esteemed. PS: I would like to thank you guys for treating DC like a lady. Believe it or not, even if the world should turn to a sewer and one finds themselves in a toilet, 'the aspect of CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS' will ALWAY APPLY, ...long after we are gone (ON) ;-)

Be Bless, Ye O SO MERRY MEN, Wade

...almost forgot, Tennyson was trying to share that when we find ouselves alone in a dark corner, only capable of expressing that which we have truly brough to the table, ...whether it be 'feast or filth' ...there will always be 'a leader' amongst us, ...who will find the light, ...each man, or woman, ...will spend as much of his or her life, ...in the dark, ...as has been predestined, ...or chosen at will, ...the only question, ...is whether we will share the dark with those who are blinded by it. Then again, when breaking free, and finding the light, we leave those who feel most comfortable, in the dark, as the dark.

"Walking in the light" 1 John 1:5 (New International Version) 5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

But few folks knew what fascist was or ment,a state of mind created during the Rise and Fall of the Itilian Empire from 1921 to 1945...
