Sarah Blaskovich says:

The family has lived there for 37 years. No one was hurt, but they say the house is ruined.

Sarah Blaskovich, staff:

The idea of calling 911 and not being able to immediately tell someone your house is burning down is awfully scary. Dallas Fire-Rescue said it had more people working the phone lines, but even with 13 staffers instead of 9, there was one point in the evening where 44 calls were on hold. The DMN and Observer explain more:

Dallas Fire-Rescue Station No. 23 is only about 500 feet from the home, but neighbors said it was 15 to 20 minutes before firefighters arrived. “No one answered, so people ran to the fire station,” Fuller said. “That’s why the house burned down, because 911 didn’t answer.”

Can someone fill me in on what protocols would really prevent you from being able to approach the fire station yourself? Does the bureaucracy really have that kind of stranglehold on citizens?

Well, it does look like people just ended up running to the fire station in the end.

For the record, this is why I support jail terms for anyone who calls 911 to complain about undercooked burgers, or whatever.

Ah - in the video, I see.
Whoa! No Answer at the firehouse.
Sure don't wanna be at their end of year review.
