Pegasus News campaign survey (April 2, 2007)
What is the one greatest thing that the Fort Worth City Council has achieved in the past year?
Though they were very late coming, the bicycle route network recently started in Fort Worth is the council’s greatest recent accomplishment. It marks Fort Worth’s first recognition of the fact that it takes more than efficient motor transportation to build a healthy, complete city. In recognizing this as a great accomplishment, of course, I’m sweeping under the rug the fact that the routes were federally funded all the way back in 1999. Unfortunately, the city fumbled the project so badly they lost those federal matching funds and had to finance the project themselves.
What is the single biggest improvement that the Fort Worth City Council needs?
The council needs new leadership to take our city in a new direction. Since there are currently no term limits set on city council seats, it is up to the voters to make sure that city government doesn’t stagnate. My candidacy represents a chance for voters to infuse the council with a new perspective and energy.
What is the toughest problem that you have ever solved?
Two years ago I started a business from scratch with very limited capital, and then grew that business successfully into the present without taking on a single loan. I want to bring that same can-do attitude, tempered by a sense of fiscal responsibility, to the council.
If you are elected and can only achieve ONE quantifiable thing in your term, what would you want it to be?
Fort Worth has been one of the most livable cities in the U.S. for a while now, but at the end of my time of public service I want our city to sit ON TOP of the livability rankings. It’s a bold goal, but I don’t plan to rest until it’s achieved.
