Pegasus News campaign survey (April 2, 2007)
What is the one greatest thing that the Frisco City Council has achieved in the past year?
The use of public bond funds to construct needed infrastructure improvements and municipal buildings such as the new City Hall, Central Fire Station, Police Headquarters and the Recreations Center. I also believe that one of the most wonderful achievements of the Frisco community as a whole is the Frisco Miracle Field.
What is the single biggest improvement that the Frisco City Council needs?
We need to work at improving the communication of what is happening with the city more with the residents. this could be achieved by increasing recorded meetings on the City's website, through negotiating with satellite providers to provide a government channel on their service (eg satellite providers), etc. By including the residents more with what is going on, they are more likely to engage more with the city and its operation. As a Planning & Zoning Commissioner, I have been an advocate for the City communicating with surrounding residents when a change is initiated by a land owner, even when not technically required.
What is the toughest problem that you have ever solved?
A creek running through my neighborhood is our Homeowner's Association's only amenity. Different homeowners were promised different plans for the creek by the builders. Some were told it would be left natural, some were told it would be maintained. Almost no one wanted it to be left to grow wild while and a great many were against it looking like a manicured golf course. An erosion problem began after the developer left, and no one could agree how to manage the problem, and most debated what the creek should look like. By listening to the concerns of the homeowners and working with experts from the City, the creek committee that I served on reached a compromise that satisfied almost everyone. The turning point was when I pointed out those homeowners who were advocating a "maintained" area did not mean they wanted a "manicured" area ¬ an important distinction.
If you are elected and can only achieve ONE quantifiable thing in your term, what would you want it to be?
Measure baseline average travel times in key corridors of the city, such as Eldorado to 121 along Legacy, then reduce drive times by at least 20% through better use of traffic light timing, and traffic management.
