Pegasus News campaign survey (April 1, 2007)

What is the one greatest thing that the Mansfield ISD Board of Trustees has achieved in the past year?
The Mansfield ISD is a dynamic District with one of the highest growth rates in the State over the last ten years. Every year, growth is one of the top challenges the District faces. During the past year a bond package passed in order to maintain the ability to stay ahead of the growth. In addition, we have maintained an excellent bond rating which was increased by one of the three bond rating agencies in 2006. This allows the MISD to issues bonds with a lower interest rate and improves the District’s ability to fulfill the requirements of bond packages as promised to the taxpayers.

What is the single biggest improvement that the Mansfield ISD Board of Trustees needs?
This is a very difficult question for a Trustee who has served on the Board for the past nine years. We have been very successful as a District and continue to be very good stewards of the tax payers’ dollars, however, there is always room for any organization to perform better. We began a process in the fall of 2006 to improve our high school student’s performance on tests and to improve their readiness to be successful at the college level. It is critical this process continues and has Board support over the next year and beyond.

What is the toughest problem that you have ever solved?
Being a small business owner I am solving problems everyday. I must to ensure my employees perform at the highest level possible and help my business to maintain a level of success. However, the toughest problem I have tackled was when I was employed and was responsible for more than 300 drivers who operated heavy vehicles throughout the Metroplex. We were faced with contractual obligations in certain municipalities and the need to organize and motivate employees to perform during extremely tough conditions was often part of my job. I consistently resolved issues to maintained service levels to satisfy municipal officials.

If you are elected and can only achieve ONE quantifiable thing in your term, what would you want it to be?
Reduce the number of juniors and seniors in our high schools who are deemed exempt from taking final exams. We must evaluate and reform this policy to better prepare students for what they will face at the College level.

Laurie Anderson Laurie Anderson is indescribably delicious. She's hitting McFarlin tonight with her new show, Homeland, and you can bet it will contain intellectual stimulation and pure unadulterated weirdness in equal measure. An album will follow the Homeland tour in 2009. More info
