Pegasus News campaign survey (April 2, 2007)

What is the one greatest thing that the Wylie City Council has achieved in the past year?
There are several great accomplishments that our City Council has made in the past year, so it is hard to name just one. Some of those accomplishments include our plans to build the addition of Fire Station #3. This will allow Wylie to maintain our ISO 1 rating and keep response times to emergencies to less than four minutes. We also hired a new City Manger with a wealth of experience that is also familiar with the rich history of Wylie. However, if I have to pick one specific achievement, I would have to say it is the aggressive pursuit of road improvements that have begun following the approval of the bond Program in 2005. The completion of these projects will allow our citizens to safely travel in and around our community.

What is the single biggest improvement that the Wylie City Council needs?
The Wylie City Council must envision our community as a part of the Metroplex. I believe Wylie has moved past the time when we were a small farming community. We must look to the future when Wylie is a city of 65,000 and plan for that future. We need to also look beyond our borders and create partnerships with our surrounding communities in order to bring more opportunities into the local area.

What is the toughest problem that you have ever solved?
One of the biggest challenges I have faced in my life was being disciplined enough to finish my college education. I was not the first person to attend college in my family, but I was the first to finish it. This accomplishment was something that my wife and I both sacrificed greatly for me to achieve. It has given me a resource that cannot be taken away from me, and gives me the opportunity to open doors that will better my family’s situation and provide for my children.

If you are elected and can only achieve ONE quantifiable thing in your term, what would you want it to be?
I want my service on the Wylie City Council to be remembered for building a better community. I want Wylie to be a place where my children will want to return after college and raise their children. Our community is over 120 years old. I want to build off that history as we move forward. We must understand that growth is enviable, but we can and must control that growth and build Wylie into the mature and productive city that will serve our citizens for another 120 years and beyond.
