Pegasus News campaign survey (April 2, 2007)
What is the one greatest thing that the Frisco City Council has achieved in the past year?
The highlight of the year was the completion and grand opening of the new City Hall and Library, located in Frisco Square. Frisco Square and the surrounding area are developing to become the heart of Frisco and will become a landmark and destination point for residents and visitors. The City Hall and Library, along with Pizza Hut Park, will anchor this location and support further development and investment in this area.
What is the single biggest improvement that the Frisco City Council needs?
I applaud the work that our City Council has achieved over the last few years. Although Frisco has invested a large portion of our budget and energy on road construction, I do feel managing our transportation system is the area that still needs the largest improvement. The mobility in Frisco has been hurt by the continued delays in the building of some crucial state roads. We need to look at alternative plans to relieve pressure on these roads. For example, we need to look at the early completion of Panther Creek Blvd to the Tollway to relieve Eldorado, which is currently becoming the most congested road in Frisco. In addition, we need to get a voice on the Regional Transportation Council and work with our neighboring cities to display a unified front when addressing issues impacting our regions transportation system. Now is also the time to start working within our region on our 20 year mobility plan and investigating the funding alternatives for mass transit.
What is the toughest problem that you have ever solved?
Managing my life as a husband, a father, and a community leader while building 2 thriving businesses have been both the biggest challenge and greatest accomplishments of my life. My wife and I are very active in the Frisco community and we feel honored to have the opportunity to serve the community that has been so good to our family. As my work as a Realtor and owning Frisco-Online.com, we always have our finger on the pulse of the city. Juggling our family time, our professional lives, and fulfilling our community commitments is a weekly challenge that we enjoy and embrace as a family.
If you are elected and can only achieve ONE quantifiable thing in your term, what would you want it to be?
I do not consider myself a single issue candidate and there are many important issues our City Council will be faced with. However, I do feel that communication to our citizens and citizen involvement needs improvement. This is evident in our historically low voter turnout numbers and citizen input participation. If our citizens were more educated on the issues facing our city, I believe they would be more involved in the political process and help our Council make more informed decisions. I pledge to improve the communication channels between the city leaders and the citizens through a variety of channels. I constantly have my finger on the pulse of Frisco through my involvement in the business community, through my profession as a Realtor and working directly with our citizens, through my community involvement, and through my ownership of Frisco’s largest citizen online communication tool, Frisco-Online.com. I will utilize all of my available resources to educate and involve the citizens of Frisco as well as remain visible and available. I would like to see voter turnout double over the next 3 years in Frisco.
