Pegasus News campaign survey (April 2, 2007)

What is the one greatest thing that the Denton ISD Board of Trustees has achieved in the past year?
Opening the Sarah and Troy LaGrone Advanced Technology Complex, a state of the art facility that provides cutting edge technology and education to serve the needs of our students and our community has been one of our district’s proudest achievements and the high point of my year.

What is the single biggest improvement that the Denton ISD Board of Trustees needs?
We need to regain local control so we have the flexibility to adjust curriculum and programming to meet the needs of our students.

What is the toughest problem that you have ever solved?
We are a fast growth district, opening new campuses every year. Through careful planning, open communication and neighborhood meetings we have been able to redistrict students (an incredibly complex and emotional problem) with credibility and public trust.

If you are elected and can only achieve ONE quantifiable thing in your term, what would you want it to be?
My one quantifiable thing would be for every student to achieve full potential and success. This is one thing but there are many ways it can be measured; SAT scores, high percentage completion rate, NATEF or Cisco certifications, college acceptance with subsequent college graduation, etc. We have a diverse population of students who have a large and diverse talent pool. As a trustee, my focus will always be on student success and there is no ONE quantifiable measure of this. One size does not fit all, should not fit all, and test scores alone cannot and should not be used as a method to measure student progress or success. If our students are successful, our schools will be successful and our community will reap the rewards.

The Trains at NorthPark Oh, no! Godzilla got into the Northpark train exhibit! But don't worry, the engineers will have it back up and running in time for your mall visit. And now, BEFORE the big holiday rush, is the best time to see them, before hundreds of drooling children take over the enclosure after Thanksgiving. More info
