Hard Rock Cafe demolition pics by Scott Dorn
While I was on site shooting the demo I met a lady who had worked at the Hard Rock for 8 years. I felt her sense of loss. She was sad and looked as she was crying at times. As I walked around and shot I was bitter and angry at the developer who could have cared less about this building. I think Mr Wells understood, my frustration, he appreciated what I am doing. I am sad because me and the city are losing an old friend. Her old architecture was no longer welcome to developers any more, being a shell of her old self anyway. Still I wish more of these old building could be saved. The list of Old buildings in the city declines in significant amounts every year. I am grateful that I was able to dine here one last time before she hit the record books. I got plenty of photos while I was here that day. This building was so beautiful on the inside I am grateful that I am able record many of these old buildings before they are gone forever. Long live the happy memories Of Hard Rock Cafe. Maybe the people of Dallas always remember their good times here. Long live my photos of long lost buildings in Dallas.
Here is shot a large chunk being ripped away. They took this down pretty fast in two days!!! And the Well demo team did a good job doing it. I am still sad they couldn't save that building.
Mr. Wells was contracted to the demolish Hard Rock. Bobby, a relative of Mr. Wells, just watched. Mr. Wells was driving the backhoe the day before this was shot. This day he was supervising and overseeing his job. Both were great men to talk to, very nice to me and appreciate my love to document the lost building they are paid to demolish. Please don't hate them, they are only doing what they are paid to do wreck buildings. It the developer's preservationist fight. Thanks for letting take the photo guys. Bobby has two sons, Bobby Jr. and another who owns Midwest Wrecking. His sons demolished The Arcadia in December 2006. They did it safely and meticulously. Bobby Lindamood owns Bobby Lindamood Demolition and Excavating Company in Irving, Texas since 1976. Mr Wells owns Wells Wrecking and Excavating in Dallas, Texas. He has been wrecking buildings for 38 years. I was sad to see some the buildings go that the Lindamoods and Wells had to demolish but they took them down safely. I have photographed a number of jobs of Lindamoods and Wells. This was the first time I met both. It was a pleasure.
No, she isn't on the phone. This former Hard Rock waitress is in shock watching her workplace of 8 years turn into a pile of rubble. She had a blast working there and was near tears this day. She got the news about the demo from a former co-worker.
