3/5i'm on the fence about this place. on the one hand, i'm glad it exists simply to address the occasional fish and chips craving. on the other, i don't enjoy having to sit through the experience of eating here. i think the brains behind this restaurant/bar thought they didn't have to decide which concept to embrace, so they ended up with a loud, harshly-lit amalgamation of what wants to be a sports bar and cozy restaurant. the wooden booths/pews are a nice touch, and i like the seating overall, but it's so open and cold that any sound reverberates through the cavernous atmosphere. if your visit is during even a marginally busy time, communicating with your friends will be difficult.
then there are the enormous tvs suspended from the ceiling and the bar area that's not separated from the open dining room at all--the whole thing is just awkward, and leaves me wondering why i'm paying 13 dollars for an average entree of english pub food (though it's good) while simultaneously being treated like i'm at a sports bar. service is pretty spotty as well. don't get me wrong, i still go to the abbey inn, i just don't go often. a girl's gotta have her fish and chips, ok?
