2/5Ok, so I always wondered about Anton because it always seems packed every time I come Downtown. Well, I was down there yesterday and stopped in to try it.
The place was packed as usual, but we managed to find a table after placing our order with the very loud, very entertaining cook and owner. :)
Typical gyro but..... I was terribly disappointed in the meat. Anton's uses some kinda of heavely processed tube of meat (regardless of lamb, beef or chicken).
I order the chicken gyro to only find the meat wasn't real sauteed chicken. Bummer.
The only reason why anyone would come to Anton is that the food is VERY fast and cheap. (I would just get a veggie gyro... IF there is a next time)
There is some enjoyment factor in listening to the comments of the guy behind the counter.

5/5Gyros excluded, this is some of the most authentic home-style mediterranean/middle eastern food in the City. Avoid the gyros (they are processed and very typical of American fast food gyros). Choose from the specials - the chicken and fish are good but the veggies (green beans, okra, etc.) are great. You can order a sampler type plate that is huge and gives you an opportunity to try many of the daily specials. I no longer work downtown but if I have the chance to be down there during the day, I seize the opportunity to eat at Anton's. The owner is as delightful and authentic as the food.

I work in the Downtown Area and had seen Antone Cafe on 1300 Main St, but never had the apetite to try it. One day a friend of mine introduced and convinced me to try it. The food was great and told my co-workers about it. I thought I had found a new place to enjoy good affordable mediterranean food. Until yesterday, it was not as pleasant as before. The owner/manager portrayed himself racial towards me saying that I needed to speak English to his employees and to him, I only asked a simple question about his prices and spoke every word in English to him, he replied disgusted and pointed to the board and said "it's on the board...can't you read??? I asked while such bad temper and again he replied that I needed to speak English. He said "GRACIAS" and I asked oh, you speak Spanish? Which he replied oh, noooo !! I told him that he should since he had Spanish speaking people working for him. He was annoyed by it and said that he didn't want to learn or speak it because here in the USA there was to many of us! Despite the amount of people there in the restaurant and all the negative remarks he was making towards me and the hispanic people, I was trying to avoid a scene and walked towards the exit door when he shouted "go make some more babies!! my response was " I will, thanks for your service! " I think that kind of behavior is inappropiate for any businessman like himself. All I know is that now I just have to take my business elsewhere!!!

1/5I tried calling them to see if they would be open on a Satruday and a woman answer "NO" and then "click" hung up. Sorry...but you just lost a lot of future business.
