I guess they can't say they didn't warn you, Jon. That should've been your first cue to get out of there and head to the Sonic next door. We used to live over there in those apartments several years ago (03-04) and the place always had good service, and the food was quite good (if a little over-priced). I wonder if they're under new management?

After church today we decided to try a new restaurant. After getting my iced tea I noticed a peice of paper stuck under the sugar/sweet'n'low holder. It read:
"The R word
Although our not-soon-enough out going president refuses to say it, our country is clearly in a state of recession: everyone, small businesses included is affected.
This further emphasizes to us that you have choices in where you elect to spend your discretionary income. Please know that we are grateful for your patronage at Cafe Lago and are committed to providing tasty, healthful, interesting food.
I am also aware of the fact that sometimes you may not receive the service that you deserve. There have been times when we have been short-staffed and while that is not a matter you should content with, it does affect your visit.
I give you my word that we are working very hard to improve our service and staffing. Please fell free to let us know when you feel we may neglecting or taking you for granted. If I'm doing my job, it should not get to that point. Nevertheless, I would appreciate your observations. They are always, always helpful. You wiaters name is on your guest check. Contant me at http://XXXX.com or XXX-XXX-XXXX. Thank you.

So needless to say, the rest of my meal was not exactly pleasant. We never got refills. My daughters kids meal showed up so hot it burned her lips. We were hit up not once, but twice by a begger that strolled freely through the restaurant and we were done for 20 minutes before we saw a waiter again. And the busboys repeated called the manager a bitch.
I could careless about a business owner's political leanings unless they decide to make a point of it. We will not be returning and this can serve as a warning to others who might feel the same way.

I popped in Cafe Lago one evening on a whim on the way home after a visit to my eye doc, who is in the same strip. I was pleased that the gent at the counter was happy to answer my multitude of questions about items on the menu and their ingredients, and also happy to find a number of vegetarian options available. After much deliberation, I took home the vegetable stir fry, bruschetta (wth no cheese...allergies) and their home made foccaccia bread. One of the chefs in the back had an incredulous look on her face when it was explained to her that the bruschetta, because of my allergies, had to come without the usual slice of fresh mozzarella, but she did prepare it as I wished.
Let me begin by saying that the flavors of the food I had were good. However, for the price, I certainly expected much larger portions. The veggies were pre-mixed with a good brown rice, and though tasty, is a technique used by many people on a budget to make their dollar go a little further. I don't like to see that at a restaurant, particularly not when paying a premium price.
The Bruschetta turned out to be four very small pieces of bread (well, two slices cut in half more than likely) brushed with garlic and toasted with a tiny dollop of tomatoes & basil, certainly not worth even a fraction of the price I was charged. The foccaccia bread sticks were also tasty and a somewhat better value, but drier than I expected.
I might try them on another day for breakfast since I understand that is when their biggest crowds are there just to see if the portion to price ratio is any better or if it is better on a dine in than a dine out experience, but I have to say based on my first experience I can turn up better in my own kitchen and for a fraction of the price. It just isn't worth the expense for the convenience of having someone else do it for me.

Well, it's about time I commented on this outstanding establishment - I eat breakfast here at least once a week (I discovered it when Barbec's was closed for remodeling a couple of years ago), and the Cheesy Omelette will redefine your concept of what an omelette can do for your taste buds.
Gabriela is a charming hostess, and the atmosphere is relaxed and casual (two of my favorite adjectives).
I should add that lunch and dinner are served in addition to breakfast, but I hardly ever get there in the afternoon/evening so I'll leave that for someone else's commentary.
The bills of fare are weighted toward a south of the border influence (as far south as Peru), with allowances made on the menu for wimpy vegetarians, but with plenty of choices of solid meaty goodness for those of us who embrace our omnivorous natures.
Gabriela and staff also do catering.
Hey, I'm not a restaurant reviewer, but I know good food when I wolf it down, and this is it.
