Café Rembrandt comes from Ronnie Smeink, a native of Holland who moved here for work, and stayed after he fell in love with a local.

Café Rembrandt is an "Amsterdam café," somewhere between restaurant and bar. The café is in the space that used to be A.J. Gonzales. Smeink has given it a warm makeover with a massive (6X8 foot) reproduction of what he says is Rembrandt’s most famous work: Night Watch.

Pre-Dallas smoking ban:

"Do you want to go out tonight so later you can smell like the engine room of a Turkish fishing vessel? It will also mean an extra dry cleaning trip."

"Not really. Let's drink this conveniently placed bottle of wine and read books."

"Great idea."

Post Dallas smoking ban:

"Do you want to go out tonight to some local establishment, drink beverages, eat food, watch some local entertainment and in general spend a yet to be determined amount of money in doing so."

"Great idea."

Will definitely be back. Pavel's not much of a beer dude, but I liked the selection. Owners are absolutely awesome to be so open and share their experiences with dudes they've never met.

Great beer selection, free parking downtown, and good company. Tough to go wrong.

I had just eaten so I also didn't grab a bite; marked it middle of the road 3 simply b/c I had to choose something (FYI Miko, might want to add a "n/a" column).

Didn't eat, so I gave it a 3 pending an actual dining experience, but Scott and I stopped in and liked it. Friendly service, and we talked to the owner for awhile about what it's like to own a bar. Also, it turns out they have a Burlesque show every 1st and 3rd Saturday, so I'm definitely going to try seeing that next time. And the parking lot is huge and free, definitely a bonus.

Stopped in for a few beers last Saturday and this place was dead (hence my desire to post a rave here). But the beer selection was great the bar snacks that we ordered from the kitchen were great. I stayed and had a good time with a few friends. One of my biggest peeves about travelling downtown for entertainment is the parking, but the Rembrandt has that solved.

One thing, if your idea of good beer is Miller or Bud light, then stay away from here. If you like top shelf european beers your in heaven.

Parking is terrific - don't let the location fool you - this place is real easy to get to from I-35 and is a walk across from the House of Blues. The parking is free - we love to go eat and drink here before walking around the West End area - we can pub crawl from here. The food is spectacular and the drinks are very well made (I'm a picky drinker). If you stay late enough the owner treats everyone to his special "walk in the woods" shot - excellent!

I dig this place. It's a nice, clean place where there's good food and plenty of drink. The staff and ownership are first rate. The parking situation can get a tad tricky sometimes at night when the Barrocco Lounge next door has something going on. Other than that, it's a place that I'd definitely like to see make it.

catte_nappe, the parking for cafe rembrandt is actually quite good. there's an entire parking lot devoted to the brewery building; any time i've ever gone there, it's been spaces galore

Staciebon, thanks for bringing this to attention. This is exactly the sort of place I'd like to try. Its location doesn't look particularly parking/access friendly. Any tips in that regard?

Cafe Rembrandt is a little taste of Holland in the heart of Dallas. The food, atmosphere and service were all great! I would definitely recommend someone give it a try.
