My friends and I had a really good time at Cibus's happy hour last week. With half price pizzas and wine, we each had two glasses of wine and half a pizza for about $10 each! The food was good, our waiter was excellent, and we loved the patio dining.

Uuuuummm finediner... exactly one day after Whitney's post gives honest (and not uncommon) feedback about Cibus, you register and post just one comment about food - "fritto misto" - in your entire post, yet this place rates a 4 and value is a 5?!

When will we see your second Lombardi Concepts praise? When the new place opens in Lakewood?

I am a not-so-longtime resident of Dallas. Besides eating out almost monthly, I also have traveled extensively (was in Plano last week) and eating is like the religion of bacon me. The royal we are a big fans of transparency in all reviews.

My wife and I are longtime residents of Dallas.Besides eating out almost daily, we also have traveled extensively and eating out is almost a religion to us.We are a big fans of all of Lombardi's restaurants. We love them because they not only a great value, but their unpretensiousness is not only refreshing, but fun. Lombardi's latest,Cibus, is no exception. It is one of our new favorites. Although it is a little strange walking in Cibus-it is kind of hidden-once you finally enter the restaurant it is beautiful. It has great imported furniture with these incredible moreno glass chandeliers. The patio riviles anything in Dallas. My past visit there Thursday was just as enjoyable as ever. We were excited to have Leslie again as our server. She had been our server once before and she is extremely knowledgeable and insightful about the food and wine. Her suggestions are always dead on. She encouraged us to order the fritto misto as an appetizer insisting that although fried, it was never greasy or heavy. And it was delicious. Light,flaky,-perfect. The Villa Pozzi was also suggested. A Sicilian blend for an incredible value of 28 dollars a bottle. We enjoyed it very much.We enjoyed everything about our experience as usual. It is always laid back and friendly. My sister loves going there, sitting on the patio with friends, and letting all the kids run around safely on the lawn.It allows parents a little time to have some adult conversation and a much cherished glass of wine. Cibus is not Wolfgang Puck or Farings, and that is exactly why we like it.

My husband and I tried Cibus for the first time on a recent weekend night. Even though the place was at least half-empty, they sat us by the kitchen. AND even though there were plenty of servers around, we had to wait a while even for the drink order. The waitress was slurring like she was drunk - or at least medicated. Then she forgot what I ordered and came back and asked again.

When the food arrived, it looked appetizing enough. Flatbread with prosciutto was great. My husband had an average-looking entree salad which he said he liked, and I had the shrimp risotto which was really mediocre at $16. It was already cold around the edges of the plate when it got to the table, and the shrimp were tough like they'd been overcooked.

The atmosphere was such that the staff seemed to reflect the impression that the place wasn't doing well. Hanging around together, not really caring, etc. I had wanted to stay for coffee and dessert but after our lackluster experience, poor service ("sorry, but did you say shrimp risotto or am I losing my mind?") and crappy table, I just wanted out of there.

Just like foodiedfw, I was rooting for Cibus to dethrone Taverna as one of my favs. But from the moment I walked up, I knew it wouldn't. There were two ladies who reached the hostess stand before me. Unfortunately, there was no hostess in sight. Finally, giving up, the ladies ahead of me went to the Caffe section, while I meandered to the Ristorante.

On my journey back there, I finally ran into the hostess. The dining room was about 50% full, but I wanted to eat at the bar. Mike was quick to approach and take my order. Very personable and friendly. I ordered a house salad and the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese.

The house salad, which was described as "mixed greens" was pretty heavy on the Romaine. The dressing was very light, and the shaved Parmigiano was nice.

Since I have visited Italy many times, and always enjoy the food there, I was looking forward to my pasta dish. In most restaurants, the pasta is the star, and the sauce is there to enhance the dish. At Cibus, the pasta was swimming in the sauce. While the amount of sauce was disappointing, it was very tasty, with plenty of meat. I guess I just had my heart set on a lighter version.

What really ruined my lunch was to have to witness 30 minutes of arguing between waitstaff and management. Very uncalled for!

I was hoping and expecting to love Cibus, but definitely didn't. Taverna is one of my favorites for both dinner and brunch, so if you are picking between Lombardi restaurants, I would recommend you choose Taverna far ahead of Cibus. I may wait 6 months and give Cibus another try, if it lasts that long which judging from our experience there isn't a given.
