3/5i visit the cupboard for: fresh prepared salads with unique ingredients (many vegetarian and vegan friendly), excellent hummus made on site daily, organic fair trade bulk coffee beans, and vitamins. they often have good prices for organic soups and stock a varied selection of wine (including organic boxed wine) and good cheese, but i don't often purchase those at the cupboard. their salad bar is great, but the produce selection elsewhere in the store is pretty meager (and pricey! though i believe it's all organic and some is probably local, so i realize it's going to be more expensive.)
an extensive vitamin department is stocked by well-trained individuals who can point you toward what you need and even give you advice about what to buy. a massage therapist offers chair massages in a room/nook between the grocery and cafe areas (i think it's a dollar a minute)--i've never partaken of this service, but my grandma is a big fan.
the cupboard just feels like a neighborhood store/cafe in the best sense of the word--not the only one i shop at for food (unfortunately!), but one that's certainly irreplaceable by any other establishments in the area.
