We had been by sometime in June only to see the canary of reduced hours. This one is really a shame. Actually had planned to go on Saturday. Hopefully Troy can get himself set up again.

The Dallas Observer reports this week that Exposition Park Cafe has closed its doors. Another funky, fun independent spot down. This time, apparently, it could be DART's fault. But then, what isn't? Color me sad.

I have to admit that until this past week I really thought that Exposition Park was just an extension of the often rude and/or overly pretentious/obnoxious attitude of Deep Ellum in general--but after watching (of all things) a repeat of a Dallas City Council meeting where many of the denizens of Expo Park came down to speak on behalf of some of the bar owners, I realized that this was something special. Very special. So with that, I can't wait to try the brunch here, it sounds special too.

This is really a great restaurant. I don't get over there often enough. The food is always fresh, interesting and delicious.

Ate there last night and the 7 of us were all amazed. The ostrich steaks (!) were melt in your mouth with a wonderful marinade, the fresh basil/chicken pizza terrific, the pecan breaded chicken breats perfect. The homemade desert was a hot brownie with ice cream and IT was perfect. Great beer assortment, drinks. The best value/quality buy I have found for upscale food served at street level.... Try it.

Great stop in Fair Park. Troy and the staff put together an excellent menu, and the grits / oxtail / pasteries brunch buffet I'll admit has given me an appreciation of some dishes I wouldn't normally count as my own, so that must be saying something.

Open to ridiculous hours and yet serving up some of the same reliably excellent dishes, Expo Park is a definite visit.

The space holds a rotating series of interesting things. She's not sure how the dinosaur ended up down the street, but it will be missed.
