2/5A warning to anyone considering making Valentine's reservations at The Grape: I made reservations 4 weeks in advance last year for the Sat. before Valentine's Day (which fell on a Tuesday). When we arrived at the restaurant, we were forced to wait about 45 minutes for a table, despite our reservation. We were finally seated by the pompous maitre'd at a communal table right between two loud groups of people. Since I had requested a private table with my reservation, I refused to be seated at this location - after all, it was a Valentine's dinner and we didn't want to be sharing our conversation with two groups of loud strangers at the tightly-packed communal table. My request to be seated at a private table was not only refused, but refused by the maitre'd in a shockingly rude manner. Even more annoying was noticing a couple seated at a private table who had walked in after us, without reservations, but who had slipped the maitre'd a $20. Nice. We left and went elsewhere, vowing never to return.

4/5Great, cozy place for a date. Known for its wine list but the food was good too.
Parking here is terrible, valet is pretty much manditory.
It's a small place, I don't remember having to wait, but it wasn't V-day, which I'd imagine causes a huge influx here.

4/5This neighborhood gem is still one of our fav places. It has a great, intimate atmosphere and the service and food is always first rate. Our visit last night, the second in the past 6 weeks, was no exception. They had a marinated, prime, chef-cut rib eye that Agent 99 had that was the best restaurant steak I have ever had. Period. Mussels in white wine/garlic sauce were plump, juicy and bread-soakingly good.
Very nice wine list with reasonable pricing. The new owner has really kept the place going with local-sourcing as much as possible. And, he's a Lake Highlands resident, too (we are)!
Highly recommended!

5/5Great, "burger mania" is going to kill this jewel of a restaurant. You might was well knock it down, put in on the top of a Hummer, and then drive it straight to Frisco! We do not have to have the debate any longer about the possibility of The Grape never jumping the shark. Note to the republican that will be driving...You need to stop on the way and pick up a few Koala Kare baby changing stations for the restrooms. Oh and larger dining chairs and A HUGH FLAT SCREEN TV. Not for the Hummer you twit but for the restaurant, cause it does not have one.

There's always a douchebag who will get what they want and not having to follow the rules like others. How cheesy is that, slipping a $20 to the maitre d'? That kind of crap should be grounds for dismissal of the maitre d'.

4/5All the recent publicity for the Grape pushed it back on our radar screen. Wanting to avoid the burger rush we made reservations for Saturday night. The setting is classic bistro. Not impeccable surroundings but cozy and welcoming, especially on a rainy night. (Did I wake up back in Portland?) We were put in the new south dining room which was ok, but the smelly labyrinth past the restrooms we took to get there kind of put us off our appetite. Great service however quickly put that right again. What to order wasn’t obvious. The mushroom soup proved to be justly a favorite and as odd as it is to say the house salad was fabulous. Fresh, interesting and, like everything we had, extremely well executed. The many little touches of competence and thoughtful care add up to a great experience and a reason for the longevity of this classic restaurant. The bread is delicious (not typically the case in Dallas) and I loved the subtle array of sea salt crystals added to the whipped butter. We split the huge, contest winning rib eye. Served over a pile of cut tomatoes and roasted potatoes the tender steak was drenched with a reduction that tastes exactly like A-1 Steak Sauce. (maybe pass on this) A highlight of the experience was the nightcap at the bar enjoying, again, the attentions of the fabulous staff – this time the bartender. We’ll return, likely eating in the bar and enjoying more of the appetizers.

2/5What latest publicity on the Grape? Is it going to add hamburgers to their menu? or is it going to be a burger joint? Are they going to have a choice of closing, or go to burgers? Did I miss something? Did i miss a meeting?

4/5We were there again last Saturday, a cold, drizzly night, and the perfect setting for this cozy little place. I'll be brief, as I've said before how much we admire the new owners and what they have done to "kick it up a notch" over the past 2 years.
The December menu is very interesting. Agent 99 had the pepper and lemon grilled trout, which was exceedingly fresh, and cooked just like Dale Hanson after 5 shots of bourbon -- white and flaky. It was topped with a salad mixture of spinach, roasted polenta croutons, bits of shaved ham, vlas kaas cheese, some red onion, with a light tarragon-Dijon vinaigrette. It was a vibrant contrast of savory-sweet-salty that worked w/ the filet very well.
I had their December pasta, which was campanelle noodles, lardons of very lean bacon (is that an oxymoron?), oven-dried grape tomatoes, garlic-asiago cream sauce and some red chili flakes. It was very rich and worked very well -- we will have to try to recreate it at home! And, as usual, 99 was eating from my plate.
A couple of glasses of, dare I say it, Albarino (inside joke) made for a great pairing and and a lovely evening!

4/5A very classy place on Greenville, located on the corner (they offer complimentary valet) they have a covered patio and two dining rooms inside. It seems like an old house that was renovated. Tables are close together which creates a very intimate atmosphere. It’s definitely a date night kind of place.
The food was delicious. I started with the bisque soup and I could have had a bowl with a piece of bread and called it a night; so tasty. Dinner was the leg of lamb and it was a huge portion. I asked my server for recommendations on a wine to compliment and he had great suggestions. Unfortunately I passed on dessert but I saw some passing by and they looked amazing.
I highly recommend a reservation. They are on open table or just call.
