1/5This restaurant was less than average. It is probably only in business because of its location. The food was average. It didn't have a unique taste or even the taste that you can get at a Mexican chain restaurant. My kids have always eaten their rice at other places, not at this one. Too much salt on the chips and even more in the salsa. The atmosphere was less than desirable. I have 4 kids all under the age of 11. No kids menu? Got to be kidding! Watch out for the 20% charge on your ticket. I guess I had a party of 6 or more. Remind you, 4 were kids. Find another place to eat.

It began by making a telephone call to place a to-go order. Picking up the phone was the most enjoyable part of this experience. I regret everything that transpired after. The woman who answered the phone asked what I wanted, then said 'got it' and hung up on me. Never took my name or phone number. I get there and the manager asks what I was there for. After indicating I was there to pick up a to go order, she slowly cited back what I asked for when I called (clearly the same woman that hung up on me). They hadn't even started preparing my food. Skipping ahead 10 minutes when my food is ready, I see the cook pick it up with his bare hands and place it in my to-go container. As if that's not gross enough, the manager comes by and asks me if I was wanting chips (which one typically assumes when queso is ordered) and after she confirms that I indeed did, proceeded to walk over to the salsa bar and grab chips by the hand full (bare hands of course). NEVER AGAIN.

1/5On recent visit to the Stockyards we decided to give Habanero's a try.
We started with a cold beer...it was cold and it was beer.
Waiter was nice, but really more interested in texting on this phone that getting our order.
We then ordered chips and Queso Dip . Queso Dip is $ 5.49 and they say it is "Our famous queso dip hand made from cheddar cheese and our own blend of spices to taste.
I can tell you it is NOT. It is right out of can, Del Taco has better Queso. Despite the set back we wanted to try some food.
We ordered: Aguate Relleno de Camaron at $ 11.99 (Stuffed Avocadoes with Shrimp) A large Haas Avocado opened and stuffed with grilled shrimp. Served with our cilantro lime rice and grilled asparagus.
And: Checko's Camarones Caliente at $ 13.99 Five huge bacon wrapped tiger shrimp stuffed with Monterrey jack cheese and grilled to perfection.
The waiter arrived at our table wit the Aguate Relleno de Camaron...upon inspecting it I noticed the outside of the Avocado was visibly dirty. It still had the tag on it and it was very obvious it had not been washed. I let teh waited know ...to said nothing and took my plate...a moment later a angry Manager/Owner ( Ray Cosme) came over to the table. We could already see in his demeanor and body language he was not happy. He asked me what was wrong and I pointed out the dirt and the tag on the avocado skin. His lack of customer service and basic kitchen/cook experience kicked in right about then. He told me they didn't have to clean the outside of the Avacado because you do not eat it. WOW! I informed him a host of different bacteria have been found on unwashed produce. This is responsible for a good deal of food borne illness. Washing produce for 15 seconds (not the 1 second shake under water most people do) can reduce 98% of bacteria.
He then told me I didn't know what I was talking about because you do not eat the skin anyway...I aging pointed out the dirt that he agreed was on the food. I then pointed out to him you want to wash produce you're going to peel with a knife as well as fruit where you eat the peel. If you cut a melon or avocado with a knife bacterial can be transferred from the skin to the inside. I also suggest washing pre-washed lettuce. Better to be safe.
He then told us to get out of his restaurant! We did so happily and we did enjoy the free beers !

1/5This past Saturday night, there was an organization hosting a charity fundraiser party at Habaneros. You pay an admission fee, plus whatever you spend on alcohol. I guess the fundraiser wasn't promoted well or something, because only 50 people, if that, showed up. I try to make the best out of the situation, it's for charity after all, so I had a drink and went to dance.
After a while, I walked into the bar area and asked for a glass of TAP water. The following conversation went something like this:
OWNER: That'll be one dollar. Me: *slightly surprised A dollar... for TAP water? Owner: Yea, a dollar. Ain't SHT free tonight. Me: Uhh, ok. Here's my card.
My boyfriend walks up to the bar to see me signing the receipt
Boyfriend: They're charging you for WATER?! Owner: I can charge whatever I feel like for water. Me: ...But it's TAP water... not even bottled water. Owner: It's MY WATER. aggressive voice Boyfriend: Chill out man, she already paid you. Owner: Gives us both a dirty look and rolls his eyes.
I'm 5"2... and I look 17. So for all this guy knows, he's one notch below yelling at a small Asian child... who PAID just to get in to his restaurant.
As much as I should have told that douche to go shove something, somewhere... I refrained from making a scene at a charity event. Instead, I just took a few sips then went around and gave my friends the rest of my water, so they wouldn't waste a dollar on this crappy establishment with it's unbelievably rude customer service.
I would rather drink toilet water than go to this place again.
