Overall I think the food was good. Especially the mac-n-cheese, definitely worth trying. I think the wine list is decent, but it tends to be on the pricier side, but then again, so is the food. As with everything else on Henderson, face the music and valet the car, finding parking down there is downright impossible most of the time. The service was definitely top notch, and mgmt appeared receptive to feedback.

Rapidly going downhill. Started out with innovative items. Over the years the menu and wine list have been dumbed down for shallow Dallas tastes to steakhouse fare which this city has a plethora of. 1980's Wedge salad, goopy amateur/Junior League Cookbook crab dip, pedestrian caesar, ubiquitous tomato/mozzarella,fried calamari(Chili's has it now) and grilled expensive meat make Hibiscus a snorer now. The California trophy wine list at 4 times markup is shameful. How about some more international wines? Or maybe some value wines so that the average wine drinker/diner can buy 2 bottles instead of choking on 1 overpriced/overbearing fruit or oak bomb from Napa? On the positive, the service is always good.

It was Girls Night Out so I suggested someplace new: Hibiscus.

Girlfriend and I took a reserved booth and ordered the house drink. Nice but too sweet for me.

We both started with salad ...I had the baby wedge which is probably the best in town.

We moved on to split the grilled fish of the evening which was a nicely done grouper layered on navy beans. Girlfriend and I both thought the fish excellent but we parted ways on the beans: I thought they had a good flavor but she didn't care for it.

We also split the deep dish mac-n-cheese. I don't care that it was high dollar or thigh fattening, it was damn good stuff.

Over-all excellent meal and great atmosphere. I will be back.

Drop the car at the valet. Confirm reservation. So it begins.

She and I decide to take two psychiatrists from Toronto out for dinner at Hibiscus.

We are seated near the fireplace. I suppose between she and they our table is enough neuvo multi cultural for better seating. The back of the space next to the kitchen appears to be the bowels for the loudest of fraternity brothers.

Drinks vary from the mundane to the exotic. All are impressed.

Service is surprisingly affable. We expect disinterest but find helpful and personable staff.

Foie gras is foie gras. Edible flowers remind of Hawaii. Pan steak is probably worth a pass. Fish special excellent. Desserts well done.

Patrons vary from offensive to reasonable. Expect a degree of fabulous.

How long will it all last? Perhaps this is the time to franchise it out? Frisco calling?
