4/5while the ihop chain, like any other chain, sells itself on predictable reliability in food, atmosphere, and service, we all know that within the general standard, there are inevitable variances. this ihop is, fortunately, on the better end of that scale. it's not necessarily the newest joint, nor the most roomy, but everything that you like about the chain diner is here: reasonable cleanliness, waitstaff who are characters but simultaneously highly efficient, and breakfast fare that will cure any hangover you throw at it.
stroll in at 2am and many of the tables will be occupied by students of UNT, as the restaurant is practically on-campus. but most of the time there is a mix of young families, seniors, and couples in their 20s and 30s hanging out and enjoying conversation over a stack of pancakes.
a recent pleasant surprise: last time i visited, i discovered an additional section to the menu that offers moderate-calorie meals, like whole wheat french toast topped with fresh banana slices, with turkey bacon and scrambled egg substitute on the side. love it. definitely a reason to visit more often.
