Tried Kalachandji's on a recommendation for a cheap, relatively healthy place prior to a concert at Supersmirplex. Based on James' comment about the great salad bar, I was hopeful.

Maybe they've changed since James was there last, but the salad bar I saw was lackluster at best. The lettuce bowls were shabby-looking and the "choice" of toppings was severely lacking. There also didn't seem to be any indication on the flavors of dressing, which made it kind of a guessing game.

The entrees were all decent, although the choice of bean & corn enchiladas seemed a tad strange to me. The desserts were the best part -- I forget the names, but one had mango and the other was a vanilla rice concoction, and both were great, especially when combined.

Having fans in the booths in the courtyard is a nice touch, especially on a somewhat hot evening like yesterday.

Its nice to see a place like this survive in Dallas. Though it could be vulnerable to political and religious satire, I love that it is widely accepted and cherished. The idea of the kitchen attached to the temple is a great way to think outside the box. Churches are always asking for money for this building fund and that social gathering. I'm more likely to give my money to someone who doesn't blatently ask for it. Its like a religious bake sale with earthly foods. Yes, the vegan Menu is great, eat as much as you want, and maybe even sit in the prayer hall for some worship on your way in or on your way out. I'm not sure what the custom is...

just their bread alone is excellent. it's whole wheat yet it has a soft Mrs Baird's-like texture, which is not at all easy to accomplish with whole wheat. there's the plain but i love the cinnamon swirl

but i love everything there - their food is so wholesome

Excellent place and vibes if your in the mood to become another person on a diffrent plane, while dont take any meat or flesh made items over there, made a mistake and gave them shoes from africa made of elephant skins, some decades back, what a rejection that was, while I love their food....great place...A/T..

Travis - They had fried sweet potato this time.

Pavel - yeah, I give the food a 3, it's not like it's going to blow you away, but the salad bar is really good, and everything else is pretty good. But it's an all-you-can-eat buffet, cheap, and it's something different, so it's well worth it.

I need to go here again. A friend took me here two years ago, and I was unimpressed, but I consistently hear good things, so I must be retarded? Gonna try to check it out this weekend.

Wow, what a nice night to visit this place. It's worth it to come here just for the outdoor courtyard, very nice and tranquil, especially on an evening like this.

One might be a little intimidated on coming here for the first time, as it's in the Hare Krishna temple (I was) - but don't worry, just walk in the front door and it's just like any other restaurant.

Their menu is all vegan, except for a few items which are marked as containing dairy. It's a buffet, so it's great for first-timers that aren't quite sure what to get. Try the little barbecue-triangle-thingies (not sure what they are) - they are really good.

They also have a great salad bar, for those that are iffy on the other food for whatever reason. Lots of fresh veggie choices, plus spinach and mixed greens.

Service is friendly and they aren't there to try to convert you or anything, just to provide you with a great meal at a great price in a great atmosphere.

Fantastic food. All dishes are Vegetarian and if that scares you off, you are missing out on some of the most wonderful food anywhere. Lunch time is buffet with a small salad bar, a soup, and your choices of tea as well as 4-5 main dishes. The food is lightly spiced with a indian/mediterranean flare. Truly fantastic and very cheap. The atmosphere inside an amazing Hare Krishna temple is wonderful and you are encouraged to peek around. Should not be missed!

ok, you don't have to be a Krishna Devotee to enjoy this nice hidden oasis. The service is great, and the atmosphere is unlike anywhere else. If you need a place to go and unwind. Maybe a place to ground yourself there are plenty of places to do so. the food is wonderful! whenever I go I am always satisfied, and leave with a smile! try to go on a Krishna holiday/event it is truely some thing to see!

The courtyard is a very pleasant place to dine. Great for bringing a date... it's one of Dallas' best kept secrets.
