I have been away for awhile, but the smoking ban will bring me back to The Loon more regularl, but I think you guys are underrating the foot at this wonderfully dark and non-descript location.
The strong drinks (definitely agree with this theme in the posts) and ½ pound burgers make The Loon a great place to while away the hours with some of Dallas' best drinkers of all ages. Notwitstanding Lisa's post, I have been here on many Thursday, Friday and Saturdays when might still get a chance to work on some of those SMU chicks after all.
I love that they are open for lunch, making it the perfect spot for me to start what I have told my wife will be my alcoholic retirement.
Here are some more of my favorite bars:

4/5Who actually goes here to eat?! haha. Ask anyone in the city of Dallas what bar pours a stiff drink and you're guaranteed that The Loon is going to make the top 5 list. I think I've figured it out. It's like going to Mexico, for the most part they use cheap swill for their well drinks, and serve beer in cans. A lot of the Mavs used to hang out here post-gametime but not anymore. This place has one of the most nondescript exteriors. ever. If you didn't know it was there, you'd most likely pass right on by. Lots of the SMU/Uptown folks can be seen here, it's too far for the Addison striped-shirt crowd to venture towards.

3/5Gotta agree with DC on this one. A friend brought me to the Loon and I had to laugh because I thought it was a total throwback. Girls come here if you want a sausage fest.
My evening was free so that atomatically makes any environment better. Can't go wrong with a vodka tonic. Sorry, never tried the food.

3/5Park anywhere, or better yet take a cab, since you're not going for the food.
The space is seems to promote smoking. The patrons vary from the burnt out swingers from Turtle Creek to the best of Uptown.
The drinks are standard fare but are designed for intoxication. Get your drinks at the bar, there's not enough room to flag down a server anyway.
Sometimes we have to eat. Pastas, pizzas and the specials are not offensive considering the venue, but are not in the league of Ten.
Everyone laughs because everyone is drunk.
