This hole in the wall on Henderson is the quintessential neighborhood bar and a place I happily consider myself a regular.

The crowd can vary from night to night, but who cares? Pull up a shaky stool at the dark bar and let John or Kenny poor you a sneakily strong drink or serve you a beer in a can. Yes, a can! From some of the best pizza you will ever eat (a former D-Magazine best pizza award winner) to outstanding grilled chicken and pasta and surprisingly good mashed potatoes, few bars, much less restaurants, can serve up such consistently good fare for the price and portion size. A word of warning – Louie’s only accepts cash and American Express. Therefore, if you don’t have an AMEX card, get one; that’s what I did (ok, I admit, my wife made me get it because it is only card they will accept at Nieman’s).

I hate seeing the reports of poor service, but I have never had that experience. The staff has been there forever and are part of the charm. If you are trying to make it the next great spot after Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, you are likely to be disappointed. Louie's is not that kind of place. Become a regular or give it another a chance by sitting at the bar.

Guy Fieri of Food TV's Diners Drive ins and Dives seemed to really enjoy the food at this very local spot.

I am beginning to wonder if I know brocious (see his/her review). If I don't, at least I am not alone. My coworkers and I have had the same experience and my husband absolutely refuses to return. The pizza is second only to Campisi's but given the issues with the staff, we too are saying so long to Louie's.

This review would be 5-stars if it wasn't for the wait staff at Louie's. The food has never disappointed and the martinis are magnificent. The atmosphere is unpretentious and comfortable. However, I am consistently put off by the aggressive behavior of the servers. A group of us from work enjoys the occasional happy hour, and we went to Louie's for the past three. Without fail, the nasty waitresses have sabotaged an otherwise brilliant experience. Even though we are young, attractive professionals in our 30s, by the time we pay the check and leave, we are made to feel like unwanted orphans, heads hanging low as we trudge out of the bar, browbeaten and worn down by our unbelievably bitter bar maids. It has become laughable how unhappy these loveless modern day charwomen seem. No matter how much money we spend, or how nicely we behave, we are not welcome there. We can take a hint. So long Louie's. Call me when your happy hour isn't so mean.

Posted from mobile I remember when this was still "the media bar" and you could catch a drink with Dale Hansen mere minutes before the late sports report.

Solid bar. Among the best martinis in town. Despite reputation as a dive, has a remarkably good kitchen - and not just the legendary pizza.

Everyone needs to give Louie's a try at some point. Dive spot in a bad neighborhood but hey the pizza rocks, beers cheap, TVs tuned to Dallas sports and the crowd is friendly.
What's not to love about it.
