4/5Mattito's just opened for business in the second half of 2010, after having renovated the old Black Eyed Pea. I usually go to Dickey's next door each week for lunch, and the parking has been getting really full for the lunch crowd at Mattito's. So this week I thought I'd try it out. We got there at 11am when there was almost no one there yet. The atmosphere was great. They had added a patio outside, surrounded by a cantera stone wall and a fireplace, reminiscent of a few places where I grew up in San Antonio. Inside, there were TVs with ESPN spaced throughout the interior. The service was quick and excellent. I had the lunch plate with 2 enchiladas and a beef tamale for ~$8, much better value and more authentic than Luna de Noche across the street. By the time we left at about noon, the place seemed packed, although I didn't check to see if there was a wait. The place seemed big enough and the service was fast enough to handle the crowds efficiently. Overall, I am happy that there is now an affordable, authentic Tex Mex sit down restaurant near work, similar in style and food to Chuy's, and I intend to go back when I am in the mood for Mexican sit down service.
