When I have friends visiting from out of town and they tell me that they want Tex-Mex and it better be good, Matt's is always at the top of my list. Their Chile Relleno is the best around.

I am sure there are lots of wonderful things to eat here but I will never know because the chicken chili relleno with green sauce simply cannot be turned down. I actually crave this dish sometimes and beg my husband to head to Lakewood. On my recent visit, I discovered the fried avocado appetizer which was a plate of battered and fried avocados along side lettuce for wrapping and some jicama, carrot sticks and sauces. Needless to say, this is going on my list. Those who are locals will say its the charm but for those who are not, you will be very underimpressed by the interior of this place which is pretty worn. That said, the patio is nice. Anyway, who cares because the food is just that good. I have also discovered that Matt's offers the best catering in town. You can order pans of rellenos, enchiladas, rice, beans, etc. and it all comes delivered to your door for 10% more. They even put it all in my oven. I have done this 3 times now and guests have raved about it every time.
