We've been loyal for years.

Memories include:

The same soundtrack as a fourth of july room in the just opened W.

Bringing north dallas friends tired of spending a premium for a fun night out.

Quick bites to and from meetings at utswmc.

The service, averaged, is consistent and unremarkable.

The food is always high quality. naturally i like some dishes more than other. the sushi is excellent, especially if you relax and adapt to what's recommended. the pho is good (mai's is my current favorite).

close to the design district, trendy (for years) in its own right (ok, upper left) there are beautiful people to enjoy watching.

great place if you want fun, solid food, not hype and awe.

Ate here before and it's good for a quick sushi fix because it's close to our home. Invited my sister & her husband to meet me there for dinner...they have a one year old. Come to find out...this restaurant does not have hi-chairs, and will not let you bring your own. Definitely not family-friendly!

I really want to like this place and I have invested 4 trips here in the last year at the urging of my friends. Every trip has been consistently bad. I suspect the attraction of the place is the décor being a few steps up from your entry-level sushi place; while not giving the impression that you are paying a premium for it. 1) Painfully slow kitchen and service. 2) Average food at best. Main course quality like a Chinese take-out counter. 3) Sashimi reasonably fresh but quality of the meat questionable and some of the worst I have ever experienced.

Do yourself a favor and spend a few extra 4 for Teppo, Steel, Tei-Tei…

I know some people have a love/hate relationship with this place but I like it.

I like clear noodle and they serve it.

You'll be surprised to see who comes in here. The atmosphere isn't great but the service is good as well as the food.

Sit at the bar.

Amazingly mixed bag here. Loved it one minute, hated the next. First of all it's a great value, you can get cheap sushi and cheap pho and noodles. Most of the time its great. One time we had horrible service and basically needed to go to the kitchen to serve ourselves. We've still gone back though because its got the best pho in Dallas. The sushi isn't that great, but its reasonably priced. Hot pots are good.

Getting the pho to go is a great way to warm up at home in the winter.

This evening starts out with some strange art show in an apartment building somewhere around Bryan street. I absolutely refuse to call this neighborhood the Upper East Side because that's stupid.

We decide it's going to be asian and now. Despite the proximity of Vietnam, Oishii wins out for the length of time since the last visit.

We're seated promptly for 6 and enthusiasitcally greeted by the sushi chef. Drinks to start!

I'm thinking I want some nigori. I am pleasantly not insulted by the staff neither telling me they don't have any nor if I want it served hot.

We start with eel, chop chop, spicy tuna, rainbow and spider rolls. Every bit is fresh and without an overpowering slob of wasabi (Sushi Zushi I'm looking at you!).

After this, a few Kirin Ichibans for the table as we're going to move into the salty realm: a) whole duck b) whole soft shell crab

Salty, crispy delicious good. Crunchy without being greasy on either dish. The crab has a fantastic hint of dried chili without seeds.

The duck is fantastic - bones, skin, absolutely just what I was looking for.

As usual, they are playing some of the best downtempo electronica in the city.

Really, if they painted the place black, put up some paintings of people crying, laquered the furniture and only turned on one in every four light bulbs, they could probably charge 4 times the current menu prices. I'm not hoping this ever happens to this place, as it's currently one of my favorites.

Always worth a visit.

Park anywhere. The space is usually busy. The decor is cheap and it works. The food speaks for itself. Dress up the walls and the price here triples.

Sushi consistently good. Pho the best on this end of downtown, if that's saying anything.

Unfortunately, most of uptown has found this place, so you will probably see tables leaving entire platters of rolls behind, likely in a display of disposable income.

Occassionally an order will come out in some strange progression, but you can learn not to care.

The music is the best downtempo in Dallas. Think Massive Attack remixes with a little Buzzin Fly.

Could easily be a high end concept sushi club. Never mind the pizza and leather shops. Or, go ahead and give it a try while you're in the area. Perhaps some urethral electricity is just what you need.

Sushi Chef Thanh Nguyen makes Oishii one of the best places to try and learn about sushi and vietnamese cuisine.

If you're lucky enough to get there when it's not too busy, Thanh will create custom sushi based on your likes/dislikes. For instance, if you're not a big fan of seaweed in your sushi rolls, you can get it made with pink-colored flavorless tofu paper instead. Oishii may not have a large variety of sushi, but what they do offer is always very fresh. Thanh also has a photographic memory for faces, and he will remember you the next time you come in to eat.

The vietnamese dishes are also quite good. For an unusual treat, they have a Sweet and Sour hotpot (soup) that contains large pieces of sea bass with an unusual spongy vegetable that is cut from the stem of the taro plant. It has just enough sweetness from fresh pineapple without being sickly sweet.

The atmosphere is very casual during the day. At night, the lights are turned down and candles are lit to make it more aesthetically pleasing.

The prices are also very reasonable.
