2/5Ok, I have family members in Argyle who really enjoy this place. But I have to say that other than the fairly quick service and comfortable atmosphere, I don’t find anything else to recommend it. Most dishes I’ve had here are bland, and the one that was enjoyable as far as flavor (spinach enchiladas) began oozing vats of orange grease when I cut into it. I’m not expecting this to be health food, but the presence of so much oil was distracting and inexplicable.
The last time we went to Papi’s as a family was for a recent birthday celebration. All the complimentary baskets of chips that our server brought out were half rancid (I know this because I kept eating them, trying to pick out the good ones—yes, I know that sounds desperate). When we brought this to our server’s attention, he didn’t know what the word “rancid” meant. English was definitely his native language—it’s not like there was a translation/communication issue. He just didn’t know the concept of “bad oil.” Just kind of struck me as strange—but it wouldn’t have been annoying if he’d done something about replacing the chips or telling someone in the kitchen. It’s not awful, but Papi’s just doesn’t seem to have it all together.
